    Cleto Reyes gloves

i recently bought a pair of 18oz cleto reyes sparring gloves, and now i see y they are called a "puncher glove"

    1) they have very little hand support

    2) it feels like u are punching with bare knuckles

    3) If u do indeed use plaster with these gloves, there is a high risk of u killing someone

margarito's one year suspention is a joke.... he should be banned for life.... i didnt think too much of it at first, but after buying the gloves, i see now the danger in having a plaster like substance in your handwraps

Yes, the Reyes training/sparring gloves are puncher's gloves for sure.

However, there are now 2 versions of the 8oz/10oz Reyes pro fight gloves.

the ones sold by ringside.com, still have the horsehair/foam padding.

as you can see above, their black reyes gloves have a contrasting Red colored lining on the thumb seam, and the bottom of the wrists.

those are the ringside original horsehair reyes. the true puncher's gloves.

        ---------------------

these new ones, straight from the Industria Reyes factory in Mexico, are the "safetec" version. they do NOT have a contrasting colored lining on the thumb seam and bottom of the wrists. they no longer use horse-hair. those safetec reyes use one thick foam padding.

i would know, myself. i won this auction:

these feel very soft and thick, but you can still feel the knuckles through the gloves.

they are still puncher's gloves, but the original horse-hair reyes are the true puncher's gloves.

I don't think they make that much of a difference. I've sparred and competed against guys wearing practically ever brand of glove, and if the guy's a hard-hitter, you're gonna feel it no matter what he's wearing.

If the guy's feather-fisted, wearing Reyes gloves ain't gonna help him one bit.

The old style Cleto Reyes were something else though...but today's version ain't that much different that any other brand.

That's what I was talking about...them horse-hair ones are definitely different. Still though, if you're not actually a "puncher" yourself, they're not gonna make a "puncher" out of you.

              i agree with you.

you said you've been hit by all kinds of brands of competition gloves?

              i'm assuming you were/are professional?

I competed amateur back in the day (close to ten years), so I competed with the usual Everlast, Title. After that I did a lot of sparring with pros using a variety of gloves...Reyes, Grant, etc. I still spar with a lot of guys at the gym (both amateur and pro), but not like I used to.

Anyway, them old Reyes definitely make a difference...but only if you already pack a serious punch. Just my opinion though.

can anyone notice the difference in Campbell's left glove, compared to his right glove?

One says Mexico, one says Reyes?

That's not two different brands is it?
