This afternoon former world super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor weighed in just beneath the 147-pound welterweight limit ahead of his first fight in his new weight class on Saturday.
A year after losing against Jack Catterall in Leeds, Taylor is back, now as a welterweight, and will fight former British welterweight champion Ekow Essuman for the spurious WBO global welterweight title in Glasgow, Scotland.
To make their 10-round fight official, Taylor tipped the scales at a weight of 146.8lbs, while Essuman weighed 146.4lbs.
Elsewhere, Scottish featherweights Lee McGregor and Nathaniel Collins both came in under the nine-stone (126 lbs) limit for their WBC silver title fight. McGregor, who weighed in first, registered a weight of 125.4lbs, whereas Collins, who looked tighter at the weight, was 125.6lbs.
More relaxed were heavyweights Moses Itauma and Mike Balogun, who also hit the scales before their WBO intercontinental and WBA international heavyweight title fight on Saturday. Itauma, considered by many to be the division’s best prospect, weighed 254lbs – that’s five pounds heavier than he was for his last fight against Demsey McKean – and Balogun, so far beaten only by Murat Gassiev, was 241lbs.
