Zelenoff vs. Hartley

No ****. He was so Goddamned glove-shy I'm surprised he didn't flinch himself unconscious.
On the one hand, props for showing up for the fight. That took some balls.
On the other hand, his own douchebaggery nearly got him killed. I say he's lucky to have walked away from it. Here's hoping he considers it a lesson learned and takes up another line of work.

Charlie trained in a gym where they don't allow contact sparring. He took one -- one -- solid hit to the face and the fight was pretty much over at that point. The first time I caught one like that I cried, too. But I was brand-new to boxing. Charlie has never taken a punch that hard in a boxing match or sparring, you could tell by watching him. He was in shock.
It's what I was talking about in another thread, I believe with BStrege (who, interestingly, has called out both Zelenoff and Hartley) about how boxing is so damned much more than skills and hitting the bag. It's having it in you to keep going after a punch like that -- TAKING punches like that and keeping your game on is as fundamental to the sport as morning roadwork. That's toughness. That's heart. You can't learn that on a heavybag no matter how hard you hit it -- or, in Charlie's case, how hard it hits back.
