Pretty natural for you to feel ****ty, but I think that if both you and him understand that it's a part of the sport, then it shouldn't affect your friendship.

However, I don't like even going to the same gym as any of my friends because I come there to work hard, and not to socialize.

In my oppinion this is a good way to spar if your first starting out, but you need to regulate your power, watch how hard your hitting, focus on other things such as footwork, head movement, defense etc.
But as you progress you should spar people you dont know, but make sure your trainer supervises it.

Ain't no biggie, I started boxing because of my friends and one of 'em was my cousin who was super talented

My cousin, who was the one that was head and shoulders above everybody else would pretty much kick everybody's @ss day in, day out. But he never took advantage and went for the k.o.

We went at it full throttle most of the time, but everyone of us had a mutual understanding, we don't take each other out if the opportunity arises.

Well anyway, I've sparred a few friends of course not going too hard but I do it to practice things that I wanna do. Just with low power, nothing is better then a live body.

I consider a lot of my teammates at the gym friends so I'm sparring with friends all the time. I just remember that we're both in there to work and any damage we do is not intentional or fueled by vengeance. It's just part of the sport.
