    Joined Boxing Gym, Need Advice!!!!

    Hi,

I have recently joined my local boxing gym.

I'm a big fan of boxing and it's really my first time taking it seriously so please have patience with me.

    I walk around between 9 & 9 1/2 stone.

My strong hand is my right hand can punch a bit with my left.

My problem is that even though I punch with my right hand, my stance is southpaw.

I write left handed, play football left footed but play cricket with my right???

I want to generate more power with my left hand, could you please give me some advice on how to increase more power.

I started running in the morning to build stamina and shadow boxing.

I would be purchasing some gloves shortly and advice where to purchase good and well priced gloves.

I want increase my stamina, Can you please advise me of any drills or workouts that can help me achieve this.

I appreciate any advice that you have to offer.

    Thank you.

Many southpaws, especially right handed southpwas have a hard time getting power in the left hand. It will naturally get better as you go but may or may not be great. I right hook will do you more anyway.

I would say just give it a little time for technique and muscle memory to set in and maybe hit the weights for a nice sturdy base. I was weak as a kitten when I first took up boxing. It took months for me to get even basic power, and years to develop good power.

If you ever get the chance, look into olympic lifting. Tough to learn but the benifits are incredible. Develops strong and really explosive hips. This is a component to sports people seem to have forgotten. Power, even in boxing, comes from the legs and hips. No boxers I know of ever do them (except for me), which only means you will be ahead of the game. But even if you don't stick with it long it will at least teach you how to use your hips. If you can't do olympic lifts an easier alternative is kettlebells. They are also great for burning calories and building enbdurance. Do a 3 minute kettlebell round and you will out of breath and every muscle in the body will be burning like an std. Lol
