Do PS3'S break easily like xbox360's?

I had two xbox360's, one of the lasers went bad on one and the other one totally overheated to the point it can't be fixed since now its not even warm at all its ice cold and never gets warm.

I'm wondering if I should buy a ps3 or just stay away from next generation consoles completely since they both might end up dying.

No it doesn't. Not to say that some people haven't had it break on them but its within generally accepted levels of malfunction, which is at or below 3%.

Two of my friends have had theirs overheat and blowout on them.

It's not as "across the board" as the "red ring of death" on the early 360 models though.

I won't buy a PS3 or a 360. Not until they're cheap enough for me not to care if they blowout on me, anyway.

Only if you keep switching them off at the back when you turn it off.

I'm on my second. My first one broke just after a year when my warranty was up. My games would freeze after about a half hour of playing, yet downloaded games on the hard drive had no problems. I tried a bunch different things to fix it including taking it apart with a friend and reapplying some type of cooling gel on the heat sensors but no luck.

That sucks man, I can't believe they made these new systems like crap. It seems it doesn't matter if you buy from Sony or Microsoft. Both built their systems like crap. Their systems overheating and my pc gaming computer never overheats and it's not even the best gaming computer..

it is under the accepted standard of failure(3%), unlike the 360.....

but obviously, like any new powerful technology, they can fail, 60GB launch units are known to run hotter than the newest models, i never really payed attention to it, but i did notice it running hotter than normal for about a month, and i had a scare with a temporary YLOD about 3 weeks before it died completely(the overheating probably fried my motherboard, since the fan and the power unit were running normal)so i had mine die after 2 years and 5 months....i'm sending it to sony to repair(for $150usd)....

this probably wouldnt have happened if i had used an external ventilator....

i bought a 80gb unit and its running fine(and like i said, they run waaaaaay cooler than the launch units, so its much more secure to getting an YLOD...), ive read the bluray lens is of lesser quality than the 60gb's though, and sometimes they eventually fail to recognize discs........

the good thing about the ps3 is that its pretty easy to get parts for it, and if you have experience tweaking computers, you can pretty much fix em yourself(as long as its not the motherboard that craps out on you, since those are the only ones that are hard to find....)

good quality bluray lenses for the ps3 are like $65, so you can just change that if youre out of warranty, the ventilator is like $35 and the power manager is like $80.......

so yeah if youre out of warranty, its way cheaper to fix it yourself.......
