I don't know anyone on the show before, but the classic episodes of Springer are gold when they actually fought on stage, and in one case lead to actual murder after the guests went home:



I think they were under pressure in the mid-2000s to stop the physical fights and without the fights, the show descended into a parody of its former self, with Jerry mocking guests rather than helping them like he did in the early years.

I think the Steve Wilkos Show is the only show now where the subject matter is extremely dark, real and Wilkos goes out of his way to help guests. Love Steve Wilkos.

Jenny Jones was canceled over a murder. She used to do these secret admirer episodes and make the big reveal onstage. They did this to a guy whose crush was also a guy and that was a big mistake. Completely humiliated, the guy they ambushed picked up a ******* three days later and shot his gay friend twice in the chest.

At one point Jerry Springer had a bigger audience than Oprah. I recently watched a documentary...I think it was "Trash TV: Dirty and Deadly Talk" which was mostly about Springer. He started off trying to do a Phil Donahue type show and was slatted for cancellation when they brought on a new producer who decided "what the hell" and went with a trash TV Hail Mary format. The rest is history.
