UFC to put censors in gloves

This is a cool move that I'm looking forward to seeing how they use it. Been saying forever combat sports need more stats for fans to nerd out over despite the old timers saying nah.
Over the weekend, UFC President Dana White and WME boss Ari Emanuel touched down in Cannes, France, where they participated in the*Lions International Festival of Creativity. During the festival, White and Emanuel announced some interesting, UFC-related news. Apparently, the promotion will be adding sensors to fight gloves, shorts, and to the surface of the Octagon itself in order to provide new, real-time statistics during fight broadcasts. The plan is to integrate these stats with the UFC’s powerful social media presence during broadcasts for an engaging, interactive experience.

As you might expect, these sensors will shed light on how hard and fast strikes are thrown. The stats will also provide some context as to how much fighters improve their technique from fight to fight.*This technology will be based on technology used in Major League Baseball.

“We’re working on a lot of stats, White said (h/t*NYPost). “We want to see the best knock out. It’s perfect for social media.

“We’re going to start creating videos from it that will be shareable with emojis, Emanuel continued. “We’re about six months away from that.

This, of course, is not new technology. Several boxing organizations have applied sensors to their fighter’s gloves in the past, generating varying levels of interest in doing so.

It would be dreamy if one day they have these sensors down to such a science that ****ty judges are no longer needed.

The force and target of every punch registered. Low blows and punches after the bell registered. Exact landing ratios.

Be a long long time though. Just the statistics will be cool at first.

Wait - they're going to censor gloves? How's that supposed to work?

      I know you meant "sensor".

Anyway this was tried some time ago by HBO and fizzled. I think PBC was toying with it briefly with that failed VR exercise too.

Yea I don't think anyone has used it well thus far I'd agree with you, but I believe the technology is only getting better & I trust the UFC to implement ideas & concepts better than any entity in boxing too.

Fighting has long slept on adding statistics to a fairly statistic-less sport for a long time (the UFC does keep more stats then boxing, but I believe being able to measure speed & power only enhances it) & I believe its some sh^t that'll only get more people interested in, respectful of & talking about fighting more.

Plus there is a decent level of sports betting in MMA & my theory is any sport the people are betting on or wanting to bet on or you want to have people betting on more needs more numbers for the betting fans to digest & try to make heads or tails of. Just go look at a horse racing program for example.

Oh f#ck ya. That is a dreamy future to think about, but is probably wayyyyy off still.

No 75yr olds judging a 20something year old sport or any sport for that matter.

I've never been a believer in the "you shouldn't do something cuz it won't work 100% of the time" theory. And to me thats just a theory of guys that are scared of risk taking/losing or freaked out by change.

Nothing is perfect. What we are dealing with now in combat sports isn't perfect. That doesn't mean what we do now isn't better than the old sh^t. I believe we can close the gap between where combat sports is now & perfect doe & thats all the goal should ever be.

I'm just talking about the hilarious whining that would ensue on NSB about rigged sensors, paid off technicians, PED conspiracies, etc.

Come on, you know it would happen.

***Sensor reports Floyd Mayweather Jr. hits twice as hard as Golovkin***

                "FLOYD PAID OFF THE TECHS!!!"

                "FLOYD'S FEATHER FISTED, THERE'S NO F'N WAY!!!!

                "ILLEGAL IV!!!"

I put most of those guys on ignore cuz I find them more annoying then funny. The funny troll is a dying breed on NSB.

if they use it along with video then cool. cause punching arm or a fleshy thigh would make the sensors go. more people might try just hit anything
