Either way, did it have more flex and stuff like that then we're used to or is it some **** that's crack and crumble soon as it's hit?
It was called Monsell's solution. Brown used it to repair Rocky's nose during the Charles fight, though some claim it was Negatan. Many trainers back in the early days used Monsell's but it was eventually banned. Like I said, you had to carve it out in the dressing room after the fight, nasty stuff.

      Is Bill Libby kinda ****?

I'll have to recheck his book but I'm almost certain he had me believing it was plaster.

Anyway, it is incredibly interesting. Tough ****ing era.

Deane McGowen in a 1962 NYT interview with Brown discussed the Monsell's solution.

Abe Attell loved to tell a story of how he saved Tunney from being stopped ('saved his life') in the first Greb fight, when he ran to the local drug store and came back with a 'substance' that stopped Tunney's bleeding.

            Could it have been Monsel?

That seems to have been the most effective go-to solution back those days. There was also negatan which shrinks the skin and turns it to a leather texture to help stop bleeding. Today it's used for cold sore treatment.

The IBHOF should wait 50 years before even having a women's category. As it stands now, just getting ranked in the top 10 in any division qualifies you as an ATG in women's boxing.
