The concept still holds, here is a match with Moran and Johnson to demonstrate the point with a real match.

The actors simulating the fights are apeing the fighters... But it is still a real ****** mistake to make...

Anyone who so desires should smack me on the proverbial rear for this one, I will start...

    "billeau you are an idiot."

    Ok proceed!!

Oh and thank you bundana for sparring me further ridicule.
I can't speak directly to this fight, but these staged fights were often first presented to the public as the real thing (frauds,) and then when exposed would re-bill themselves as 'simulations.' (And they got away with multiple times; few people actually knew what a prize fight looked like.)

And a few involved Fitz lol. I had figured I had him covered with the Choyinsky fight.

In my opinion I believe what we have is the evolution of two schools of thought and fans have a hard time understanding the old because it's largely a puncher's set of skills and punching as an art form is criminally underrated and explained.

Hell, boxing, in whys, whens, and whos, is largely unexplained.

Who beat who probably should come after who invented or innovated what but it doesn't and that's probably the biggest issue.

Johnson put the milker on a cruel rich kid once who knew savate and liked to bully people with it. The punk got in one good kick that would have finished most people, but Johnson was able to get a holt of his throat with a big milker while standing on one of the kid's feet. That kick hadn't felt very good, so Johnson began slapping the punk's face for him as he hung there turning purple with his tongue lolling out. Then he dropped him there on the floor like a puke rag and finished his pool game.

There are several accounts of English boxers fighting mixed matches against French savate practitioners.

            With the boxers usually winning.

Again, this has to do with principles of martial combat generally speaking. You do not put yourself in range of a weapon.
