Comments Thread For: Ngannou on Fury: 'I Kept Imposing My Style ... My Southpaw [Stance] Was Making Him Work'

Francis Ngannou felt he neutralized Tyson Fury for large stretches of their high-profile showdown by fighting as a lefty. The former UFC champion failed to pull off the upset over WBC titlist Tyson Fury in their 10-round heavyweight bout on Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but he shocked many viewers by being mostly competitive and even dropping Fury in the third round. In the end, the judges narrowly awarded Fury a split decision.

Good technical analysis from Ngannou there. Agree with that for sure. Fury likes to make out that he is “ambidextrous”, but he definitely doesn’t gain much by switching southpaw at all, as it’s his weaker stance. Def not able to capitalise like Terrence Crawford can. Come to think of it, I have seen very few boxers who truly have just as many advantages by switching stance.

Fury went out and set boxing back another 50 years to the point where every MMA fighter now is almost sure they can complete with elite boxers when they probably can't. Got you thinking, is Fury really the best of this era as he claims. Beat Deontay Wilder who many would say never dispaly much beyond a right hand, a shot to sh.its Dillian White and Chisora. Hmm gets you thinking if he is or perhaps this just been a ****.house era of heavyweight. I think Zhang probably ends him at this point.

Fury struggles with southpaws (doesn't everybody though?) and Usyk is one of if not THE best southpaws to ever grace the 200lb and up divisions.

Many say that Fury is too big for Usyk but I don't think that is the case. Side by side in the ring after the Ngannou fight, the size difference is not as great.

Those of you who say Usyk has no power at HW know it is greatly exagerated. He has enough pop to keep hard hitters like AJ and DDD at bay so obviously his power is to be respected. Not only that, but he has a world class chin (don't think I've ever seen him get rocked).

I'm going for Fury as the slight betting underdog when their fight finally gets announced.

Ngannou never bothered with Fury's faints as all have done and Usyk will , he is SOLID and used to taking feet , elbows and Westling and has a punch . When this kid shaped up to the next opponent then people will begin to realise only a fit and boxing at distance Fury and a huge puncher like Wilder will have any chance .If this guy had turned to boxing at 25 he would certain be a champion. He reminds me of Ike Ikeabuchi , he going to bust some clorts!

I’m convinced Jake Paul too would have become a world champ had he started boxing earlier

Furys stuggles with Ngannou's southpaw stance makes me question any chance he has v Usyk.

Ngannou couldn't and didn't throw any bombs from that stance, because his power hand was forward. He wasn't a threat at all in that stance. It really was bizarre as Tyson was just so confused he couldn't let his hands go. No straight rights, no idea how to circle... Nothing to the body...

Throw in the performance against a very average Wallin and it looks like Tyson has zero clue what to do v a southpaw. Can't blame it to him just not being prepared. He can't fight southpaws.

I don't blame him, who doesn't struggle... but Usyk will probably knock him out.
