Comments Thread For: Amanda Serrano, the gruesome cut, and why the fight was not stopped

When Amanda Serranos cut gaped at its widest in the eighth round of her rematch with Katie Taylor, many observers believed the fight had to be stopped. As grim as any boxing wound in recent memory, the skin peeled from her right eyelid to expose red, unprotected flesh.

It should have been stopped but I expect Jake Paul and his team broke many rules by refusing to stop it. The doctor in charge should be struck of the register.

Head buts, low blows and other tactics have always been part of boxing. Not very different than various tactics in other sports. If it’s caught it’s illegal, if not it’s allowed. As in business, politics, life. Still a rematch is warranted. If not mandatory then just for entertainment and redemption. Overall Serrano is a featherweight champ jumping 2 weight classes to win a lightweight title. That points to a winner in any case.

That was a good explanation by the Doctor. I thought that the decision to let the fight continue was the right one. The main reason being that she was able to see.
On a side note , it's got to be really uncomfortable to get headbutted in that cut after it has opened up like that.

Amanda showed more cojones than some male fighters that have quitted. She is a fighter at heart so no surprise that she kept going on also.

The decision is up to the Doctor , he made his decision based on his interpretation of the circumstances and injury. Exactly which rules were broken and what did Jake Paul or anyone but the Doctor have to do with it ? Post a link to the evidence that "Jake Paul and his team refused to stop the fight" and of the rules broken.
