Comments Thread For: Atlas: Algieri Could Be Getting Pacquiao at The Right Time

Teddy Atlas, expert analyst for ESPN's Friday Night Fights, is giving WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) a shot to unseat Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38KOs) for the WBO welterweight crown on November 22nd at the Venetian in Macau, China. Algieri earned the HBO Pay-Per-View fight with an upset twelve round decision over Ruslan Provodnikov on June 14th.

Atlas is officially picking Pacquiao to win, but he points out that he also picked Provodnikov to win back in June [and Atlas scored it for Provon***ov]. With Pacquiao's age, his many wars of the years and his numerous things going on in his personal life - Atlas says Algieri could very well be catching the Filipino star at the right time.

Agreed. Pacquiao is like 75% of who he was in his prime. This time is great to fight him, plus im guessing he wont train as hard for algeri as he did for the last bradley fight.

I remember Teddy picking Cotto to beat Martinez recently, he could be right again if Pacquiao is pre-occupied with a multitude of things rather than focusing on preparing for this fight. At 5'11" and with his style of fighting, this is definitely a probability.

algieri gets stopped............first time at 147. can't break an egg at 140. and has done absolutely nothing at 140 apart from graze by provo.

pac knocks him down a few times & runs through him.............

You will see Pac the professional ball player and he'll still be too good for Algiers.

Rule of thumb, never put a fleet footed fighter in with an aging warrior. Many older fighters who were the favorite lost because they couldn't overcome the youth and speed of their opponent, especially one who is taller and rangier than almost everyone they have fought. When a fighter cant pull the trigger the way he used to, it becomes more pronounced against this type of opponent.
