Golovkin is bucking the trend by staying active. Fans should be embracing that.
Lets see what actually happens. I think its harder to fight 3-4 times a year when you are a PPV caliber guy, which is what GGG seems to be going for, than it is to do it when you are a premium cable guy. Its easy to say **** right now, but when HBO is saying we don't have the budget & GGG doesn't have 3-4 PPV opponents per year he'll likely be fighting 2 times a year too.

Basically I just think there is more going on here than just a boxers desire to fight more often. There's TV channels dates & budgets in play with this stuff to & PPV caliber opponents that just may not be lined up all the time.

As of lately, is GGG fighting guys who are ranked at #34 or #44?

The argument is about staying active. Not quality of opposition.

Let's say Andre Ward fights 3 tuneups like some are suggesting he will. How many forum members do you think will applaud him for fighting so frequently?

We'll you can have as many fights as you want as long as your taking care of the best in the division.......if golovkin beats lemeuix conmfortably and then goldenboy start dodging him when it's canelo turn to face ( if he beats cotto ) then I don't mind seeing him fight a top 10 as long as the guy comes to fight ....if he fights 3 times a year for 5 years and rules the division like hagler did....then the sacred 49 will be reached.......I have a feeling golovkin won't retire early....that's all he has ever known...he don't get involved in the bling of the sport.....he don't like the fancy cars and big ******** bets....he hasn't been involved in ring wars....maybe that's why he is talking 3-4 times a year......Robinson,Louis,Armstrong and even Duran and latter day Chavez would have there side order stay busy fights.....be nice to see improve more every time

I don't see how this will work. Especially if GGG shows he can be a success on PPV. His opponents will be asking for more money, HBO won't have enough in their budget. If he's planning on fighting 3 or 4 times a year then it will probably be once on PPV and 2 other times against less than stellar opposition on regular HBO

If Golovkin can go mainstream and appeal to the casual fans of the sport, then I could see him squeezing in 3 big fights a year. Also, I don't necessarily see Golovkin fighting on PPV in every fight. When you add the PPV element, yes, it's harder to fight more frequently because the networks have budgets and so do the people who buy the PPVs.
