I think it was a early stoppage. I'm sure in ref school or w/e they teach you that a fight is a fight is a fight, but the reality is at this elite level of the game you gotta allow guys more opportunity to fight through f#cked up situations. If this was a fight between some 20-0 prospect vs a 12-4 journeyman type guy I'd have no issue with the refs decision. Being that this was a fight for a top 3 spot in the division basically I think you gotta let Quillin go on. Don't matter if he got blasted 3 seconds later with the next punch that landed, he deserved that opportunity.
Having said that fighters need to learn to take a f#cking knee strategically sometimes. Quillin was his own worse enemy here. Quillin showed some toughness just to stay standing, but it was all for nothing cuz him not going down is what helped to get the fight stopped. If he goes down maybe that 9 count allows him to recover enough to satisfy the ref.
I guess there is so much ego or "manliness" at stake or its just a bad look that few fighters use the knee as a means to recover.

Go watch any fight of the year candidate and see you'll find numerous times where a trigger happy ref could have stepped in like tonight but didn't and it resulted in a great fight.
Boxing is so all over the place with everything the consistency of the sport is worse than a dogs **** after he ate some taco bell. Plenty of refs woulda let Quillin go on & I think thats deserving for the sport we ideally wanna watch at this level.

Good stoppage...no secret that I don't like Kid....but if the fight had continued he could've been SERIOUSLY hurt...he was out on his feet....good stoppage imo

He should have at least made Quillin walk towards him and respond. He just kind of freaked out and stopped it. As much as I love it, it was bad.

People wondering why Quillin didn't take a knee? He's probably never been taught to and we already know he isn't a smart fighter who would think of that on his own. You have to ingrain strategies like that into a fighter's head and hope they have the wherewithal to use it in the heat of the moment.
