Is it wrong to root for a fighter just because he is the same race or ethnicity?

I agree. If it's two guys I don't know in the ring, I'm not for either until I see the first round. Usually the aggressive guy gets my vote, unless he walks straight in like an idiot. I mean, it can come down to several factors. Race is pretty much out the window. I can appreciate seeing a fighter of my ethnicity come up, but it all depends on who he is fighting etc. If you had Canelo-Trinidad, I'd be for Trinidad all day. Was a huge fan. If you had Canelo-De La Hoya, Canelo all day. I like Canelo, never liked DLH. When Chavez, Sr. fought Tszyu, I wanted Chavez, Sr. to win. At that point, no way he was going to, but I didn't root for Tszyu because he was white. If Fury-Wilder happened, I'd root for Fury, but I must say, it wouldn't be about race. It would be about Fury being more skilled and more entertaining and Wilder being nothing more than a right hand, IMO. So really, when it gets down to it, race doesn't factor in a lot, once you know the fighters. I agree 100%. That's really all of this in a nutshell. If people see two guys in the ring they have never heard of, never seen fight, know zero backstory on (let's say even where they are from) and can tell you who they are rooting for before they see them fight I consider that suspect.

Agree - one of my favorite fights of all time is his first fight with Samuel Peter.

That was in 2005, I believe - and seemed to be the last time Wlad fought with reckless abandon.

I just like tall boxers who fight with a powerful jab, and use it to set up vicious combinations.

That's never crossed my mind. You can get two people of the same race who you like and hate. Hate broner like mayweather. To me it's more on the style of boxing and personality.

I don't think there's anything wrong with supporting 'one of your own.' Nothing wrong with wanting to see them win. Just don't agree when race is used as a form of hate to the other fighters and fans
