This is why Hopkins should've picked an absolute bum to retire against..he picked a guy riding high off his biggest win and hungry to reach the next level..a dangerous opponent. But that's how I'll remember Hopkins , for taking endless risks. .it was a clean shot but that guy outside the ring just ran off instead of trying to catch him.. This could've ended worse, his neck slammed the concrete hard.
B-Quit didn't want any more of that. He knew his career would end with a one punch ko loss. So he did the one thing he knows better than anyone to do - he quit.
In a number of these threads people are saying it was hilarious but I sure as hell don't see anything hilarious about an older past great fighter meeting his end of a great career in a very dangerous way like that.
Hopkins has always been called a throwback fighter, so it's befitting that his career ended just like Joe Louis's did. Knocked through the ropes by a WHITE MAN.
Hopkins is a great legend. The likes of which we may not see again. Sure, not always the most stylish crowd pleasing fighter but he had great victories in his career, and he got his revenge win over Roy Jones. Not the way I would like to have seen his career end but having seen the replay it was only punches, including the left hook, and no pushing at all that had him go through the ropes and out of the ring. Maybe he could have survived the distance but he couldn't have won this fight. Two years ago he may have beaten Smith, but at 51 you do obviously feel that age in the ring. Salute to B-Hop n great memories like his wins over Trinidad, De La Hoya and Pascal.
