It's hard to argue against Pacquio's performance against both Adrien Broner and Keith Thurman at 40 years old but as far as Canelo is concerned; Hell no.
First, he ducked Golovkin and barely outpointed Daniel Jacobs in a very boring fight in which many boxing fans believed was close and could have gone either way. Then subsequently was stripped of that same title he had won from Jacobs anyway; Which made that victory both null and void.
Then lastly, he cherry picked a shot, washed up, past his prime, beyond his physical peak and diminished Light Heavyweight in Sergei Kovalev who had been exposed and on the decline since the second Andre Ward fight.
I don't really have an issue with the Manny pick as FOTY, however I still feel like Canelo's wins are still worth more. Perhaps if Thurman hadn't looked like trash in his comeback fight, then perhaps. People will point to Kov being on the decline but his performance against Yarde was damn near perfect, with the exception of one 1 round. Thurman got splattered throughout against an absolute journeyman and he was an enormously overwhelming favorite going in. The Kov vs Yarde odds were much closer. (not to mention he was a highly touted unbeaten ko artist)
Inspite of typing all that, call it how you see it! Canelo for me
