how do i know my style

i dont know what style i should try to work on.

right now, my trainer wants me to be an orthodox outside fighter. I think thats what its called. either way, he wants me to fight like lennox lewis and something like sonny liston

but im only 6'0'' and 180 right now, but my weight is hard to control because im 16 and im still growing, so im going to be well over 200 by 17

and i dont do weights, so that 200 lbs isnt with weights. its mostly heavybag work.

most of the guys i fight are taller, not that much, like around 6'3''-6'4'' so i have to get inside sometimes.

thats why i dont think an outside fighter is good for me, i should be an insideish fighter.

i really like tysons style and would like to fight like him (not that you havent heard this before, lol )but i dont think i have the speed like him (handpseed, fast bobs, etc)

but theres inside fighters like frazier that arent as fast as tyson but still great fighters. should i try to work on a style like that? fighters like dempsey, marciano, frazier??

You can't choose a style. Your style will choose you. All you can do is keep sparring and figure out what works.

My "style" is just an amalgamation of tricks and moves that I've picked up from over a dozen great fighters I've studied in the past year, and that I can make work for me. The weaving engagement from Tyson. The drop-step jab and the shovel-hook from Dempsey. Infighting and constant motion from Marciano. Flat-footed smashes while staying covered from Shavers. The momentary orthodox/southpaw switchup from Hamed (I'm ambidextrous; I don't recommend this one to everyone.) It goes on and on.

thats the thing. ive been boxing for about 2-3 years and still can't develop any certain style.

i just go in and hit the guy with jabs and straights and some hooks when i try to counter him

maybe i shouldnt've said what certain style....but maybe...what should i mainly focus on? getting inside since im short comapred to other fighters, etc?

I think styles comes natural as you start to spar more and imagine you fighters what they are going to do so you could shadow box with that.

every opponet you fight with you style changes because you see sometihng better to deal with them and in the proccess your style that you are more comfortable with will stay with you. even trainers contribute to this too because each on has his own preapactive in thing.

for example for me i was lefty and orthrodox first when i started to learn and then now i changed to southpaw for main reason that my left hand get tired very quick and the right there is the stamina which i use it for the jab which is the most punch that i going to use. i have both nearly the same power. now i trying to master counter with right hook or right uppercut for the left jab of the orthrodox fighter which could make a lot of use for me.

some people tell me that i am tall to but i just 5'8 or 7 i dont know because each scale gave me something but i will go with 173cm - 176cm and wieght was about 68-69kg i first started as 76kg my wieght didnt change that much even when i stopped training for long time which is my type of body that stays the same weight even if i abuse my body.

I'm short for my weight class but really damned strong, so I like to fight in close. I mean real close, close enough that the guy can smell the garlic on my breath. I throw short shovelhooks -- half hook, half uppercut -- with lots of torque, and use my other forearm to block. I'm safe in there. Most tall guys either don't or can't hit hard point-blank; it's either a function of their body structure or they've never practiced. I practice on the heavy bag close, I spar close, and when I'm out of range I'm always moving. I keep a tight guard and take a few hits on my gloves when I'm moving in, but once I'm inside your gloves, it's on. "Fist fighting in a phone booth," as a guy at my gym put it.

EDIT: I've only been fighting for a year, and part of the reason this style works for me is that none of the trainers at my gym teach it, so it confuses and frustrates the guys I spar with. It's the whole Sun Tzu thing about attacking your opponent where they're weak and you're strong. If I run into a fighter who's familiar with this style, I'm screwed.

fraidycat...im a bit tall for my weight but since im young, im growing like crazy right now. ive gained 20 lbs in 4-5 months little being fat. little as in non-noticeable

thats why right now, my long range fighting is good, but i know for sure by the time im 17, im gonna be well over 210 at 6'0'' thats why i want to start changing my fighting

if i was around that height and weight, would the in fighting be good for me? like the way you describe the way you fight.

not exactly ONE style of fighting, but i should focus on fighters such as dempsey, frazier, marciano, tyson, frazier, etc right?

because i like to watch fights...only to learn, i rarely watch fights for entertainment unless its very big

you style is usually i think you feel better when you confident and comfortable with.

i though i taking other fighters style but i feel its not me so i try to make my own style which is unqiue for me and my hard for many people to fight me.
