Quick question:

Is their politics in every boxing gym about other trainers talking to your fighter etc???

Personally I am loyal guy and stick to one trainer but in a perfect world wouldnt it be better take a little bit from everyone with knowledge or just stick to one guy???

i used to have one main trainer and several part trainers(boxing), now i have one for muay thai and one for submisson wrestling and its absolutely no problem

i use to have one trainer and thought that he was THE MASTER but there were more trainers who were as good (when i switched gym) i found out it is good to change trainer every so often or just ad one or two trainers to your weekly routine, if you can of course. Where i am now we have 5 trainers and i use all of them on different days or who ever is av. it has changed my view on trainers. All our trainers are pros or ex pros and 2 still do MMA so we can train what ever we like with them. Its no problem although it is originally a boxing school. Yesterday i did muy thai...

well I have 2 trainers they both work together and run the gym together
one of them is a older more old school type trainer and the second one is more of a new school type trainer

every trainer is different, for example my second trainer is kinda of a don king in a way. whenever somone has a hard right or left hand he makes a big fuss about it and has to go around saying **** like, omg he hits hard, cant wait for his next fight!

but in reality its like dude come on no one cares your a trainer not don king man lol

Both the quality and quantity of politics in the gym will depend largely on the head trainer or owner of the gym and his ability to influence all the competing agendas to achieve an overriding success as he envisions it. Some gyms operate with military efficiency and others are one step away from chaos.

The problem of dealing with trainers can become one of the biggest tribulations of your life in boxing. Some trainers are ridden with ego and attempt to dominate their boxing pupils. These sort of guys tend to teach everybody the same style, and are prone to making any number of dogmatic pronouncements upon any subject that suits them. I believe the term to describe them is demagogues.

A few days ago I was watching a documentary about boxing training on one of the local TV networks. I noticed that one of the trainers was teaching the kids to fight like a tall boxer. Another was teaching them to be a short slugger. Naturally, of course, the kids were wondering which one of them was right. Sadly, they didn't have anybody to tell them that both coaches were wrong. Like so many of these modern trainers they did not understand the role of style. They are so involved in their own theories, and their own agendas, that they fail to notice that some kids don't adapt very well to their way of doing things. When things don't work out they always blame the kid for being lazy or inept.

When you chose a coach, chose one who understands the role of style in boxing. Every man is different and they should not all have the same style. Chose a coach who knows that you have limitations and tries to work around those limitations. A good coach doesn't always tell you what you want to hear.

Kate Sekules wrote a book about her experience of training at Gleason's in New York. The Boxer's Heart was the title as I recall. Do you think all the trainers in Gleason's are competent? Well, think again. While she was sparring she was getting hit and couldn't figure out why, so she asked him. His reply: "Don't stand up like that." Wow, such insight! Mistake number one, she had to ask him. A good trainer will see that you are getting hit and will take measures to correct the flaw in your style which causes you to get hit so easily. Mistake number two, he gives her a ****** reply. Obviously he doesn't know what the **** he is talking about. Mistake number three, that one didn't happen, she got rid of the bastard!

how's your MT working out for you? martial arts is a cool world isn't it?

on my other PC i have a short 30 second clip of old old school MT from the 1930s. i could try to find it on the net if you want. it looks like the guys are going at it. i am curious to know how the training these days is different from a few decades ago.

we've got a decent balance at our place.. we have a pro who trains us.. and an old polish guy with a wealth of experience.. and a few hard nuts that know the basics and how they should be applied.
