    Heavybag, Your Opinions Please.

Aite boys, long time no see,

Anyway. I'm after a new heavybag, I want something HEAVY, something that will suit my needs as I get stronger and more powerful, So firstly what weight should I be looking to get my heavybag? Give me examples of previous experiences or what you currently have or whatever to inform me what weight would region would work best.

Next, where to get it from? I'm from UK so I dont want to pay anything more than I need to so I'm asking here for first-hand advice, are there any bargain spots that I can hit and get a cheap heavybag from or are they all pretty much around the same price?

A site link to some of your favourite buying spots would be great. UK based only.

Personally i purchased a custom made 250 pounds kevlar heavy bag from genesport about a year ago. It is by far the best bag i ever had, it keeps it's form and no matter how hard i punch it doesn't get any soft spots. Genesport is situated in montreal so it might not be the best choice for you, you can always buy from them online but the transport from montreal to the UK would probably cost you an arm.

If you want info about genesport you call send me a private message.

I would also suggest ATF bags, but sadly they are also made in canada. I have no idea what is available to you in the UK.

I know that everlast make some decent bags(not the cheap plastic ones) but when i was looking to purchase a heavier bag, every place i called said that the heaviest bags everlast made was 150 pounds.

I'm in the UK and I've got one of these

I've taken the rag out and filled the bottom 9 inches or so with a bag filled with sand from B&Q (about ?) which adds about 10kg.

It's been refilled with rag and another 10kg bag of sand put in the top. Over time with the bag moving this compresses the rag, so for a while it needs taking down and more rag adding. Eventually it settles.

The bag is very tough and used in Thai gyms and will last a long time. At the moment it weighs around 55/60kg, which is heavy enough for me right now.

I have had it filled with rubber pieces (stuff for the garden from a company called Dunweedin) but that made it VERY heavy. It was also hard, but useable, but I thought that the weight made the bag move less than I wanted.

If you start messing with the filling in your heavy bag and need to take it up and down, I use one of these:

      (model MH05)

to make life easy and it also means that I can keep changing the filling, weight etc which I reckon is the only way that you'll really get the set-up that YOU want.

Buy a quality leather bag and if you're not happy or what you need changes, experimenting may be the way to go!
