    Can a small-medium height fighter with short reach become a counter-puncher?

    Hello guys Ill just ask If a small/medium height fighter with short reach can become a good counter puncher?


    What are the factors or skills that you must have to be a good counter puncher like floyd mayweather and juan manuel marquez?

    speed, shard reflexes, elusiveness, great footwork. i think anyone with any build can do it if they train at it. Parnell Whitaker is one of the great elusive counter punchers ever. check out his highlight reel on youtube if you havent yet. roy jones jr, ali, in some cases cotto. cotto has an amazing jab counter that he uses all the time. slip - catch jab - and pops his jab out right before he cathes their jab. train train train and youll get good at it. the ones that master it are some of the greatest of all time.

      speed, sharp reflexes, elusiveness, and footwork?

        first of all how long is your reach relative to your height? The longer the reach the better the counter punch.

          Oh no I think I have a short reach T_T But I want to be more of a counter puncher than an offensive type slugger. But it looks like I have no choice...

            watch juan manuel marquez videos usually its a quickstep back or a slip so you must be quick on your feet and your hips and also with your hands because it is no use if you just have quick body movement and foot work but slow hands and vice versa.

              well when i think of counter punching i think of great foot work and speed and elusiveness which all = intense stamina. you need to hit the road work like a mother to increase your stamina because just dancing around like ali for a few rounds is tiring on its own. you need a strong core to increase your slip speed for your lateral movements left to right. workout your neck as well either with a neck harness like mayweather or do the ones on the floor where you use your legs and head like a tripod and rotate your head around. tyson has a clip of him doing it. the HIIT i would recommend even though its hard as hell is complexes. its one of the perfect cardio intensive conditioning workouts i like to do because it works my shoulders, tris, forearms, back, legs, and a little bit of core just for stabilization purposes. it is done with an olympic bar in a circuit training type workout. i have a clip of me doing one of the 4 routines for it and can pm it to you if your interested(not my best session but i think it was my first time back in a long time). aside from your regular stuff like road work, mitts, bag, sparring, isolation work, HIIT running, complexes would be the only other thing i can think of. it will all come with time and training.

                to be a great counter puncher you're going to have to have that extra bit of stamina because which short reach you will have to move a lot more and plus a bunch of other variables. but stamina is key.

                  Is there such a thing as an aggressive counter-puncher? like at first you smack him with some good counters to make him respect you and then from there take the pace and smack him with some shots. is that ok?

                    Am 6 foot 1 and make my self even smaller i fight like andrade and margreatio
                    also 2 fighters who dont use there size and prefer to fight crouched, so fight what style you feel suits you
