Fat ass needs some pointers (entertaining post)

First let me say I appreciate any insights or experiences with this type of situation. I could use some pointers to help me out of this hole I dug.

21 years, 5'9 190lbs, 24" pit to fist, Los Angeles, white.

I was active and in decent shape for most of high school. Hit college and got lazy. Smokin, drinkin, In-n-out burger. Turning 22 pretty soon here, went for a run today for the first time in a while... **** me, I need to take better care of myself, what a realization.

I ran till I didn't want to anymore, distance covered? 1 ****in' mile. Got home, took a shower, had a coughin fit and blew out a bunch of flem with a nice brown tint to it, great.

Anyway, some of my homies are gettin' into roadwork an all tryin to build up for a stint with one of the local clubs, I got them into boxing and this **** can not continue. I would be embarrassed to hit the gym with them at this point. So, I'm makin my pact now... Quitting smokin, quittin drinkin, hittin the road.

My goal: Get to 160 and head over to the boxing gym. Then try and drop to WW...

I think I can lose 30 lbs in about 6 months, maybe sooner... I know I lost 30 in about 4 before but that was when I was really fat and I know it gets slower and slower...

My plan is to run a mile everyday from now on and add distance when appropriate. Also, start doin the 6 snacks instead of meals thing... I would appreciate some advice on other exercises and routines. As you can tell, I am in bad shape but I do have the will to fix this.

Anyway I hope you had a good laugh picturing a fatass whiteboy running a mile like Jack Black.

If you're that out of shape, I wouldn't recommend you trying to force yourself to run everyday. You're simply not going to want to. Start slow. Run once every other day. If you cant jog the entire mile, do minute intervals - 1 minute running and then 1 minute walking, repeat.

Before you join the gym you may want to pick up a jump rope and get that down fairly well. You can get one at walmart for $10, and while you're at it, get a stop watch or kitchen timer or something similar. You'll be just embarrased at a boxing gym if you're in shape but cant jump rope for ****. Jump rope for 3 minutes with 1 minute breaks inbetween. Do this 4 times. NO MORE - your feet will thank you. Also make sure you're not doing this on a cement floor without any padding - again your feet will thank you. You can get a pack of 1" pads at ****s for like $10 to help if that's your only option. A wooden deck would be perfect if that's an option.

Of course the usual situps/pushups/squats should be a part of your routine. The important thing is the cardio right now. Push yourself but don't strive for unrealistic goals. Try 3 days a week until you're comfortable.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the post man. I forgot about the rope. Got back on it today and that felt good, slow as **** on it... but it felt great

Things are already getting easier. Have not quit smoking yet though... but have cut way back to 2-3 per day. I will take it to zero and keep it there... It's just my little *****, I wont miss her when she's gone though.

I really cant believe how much better it feels after less than a week.... I forgot you could work out till it felt good
