Banjo Kazooie Spiritual Successor in this month's EDGE.

Playtonic Games, a new studio formed by six veterans of Banjo-Kazooie developer Rare, has announced its debut game, “Project Ukulele,?which it says will be a “worthy spiritual successor?to the platforming adventures of Rare’s past.

In the latest issue of Edge Magazine, the studio says it has funding for the title, but would like to work with a publisher if it is mutual. The game is planned for release on Steam Early Access and consoles.

When Microsoft bought Rare a lot of the guys that made Perfect Dark, Conker, Golden Eye, Banjo and DK had moved on.

A lot of them created Free Radical and made timesplitters or moved to other studios. The Stamper brothers left in 2007 just after the 360 came out but by then a lot of the talent had left already. The had trouble learning to develop for the first xbox but they made some OK games Perfect Dark Zero was an OK game, not great. The Viva Pinatas were great kids games, not a huge fan of Banjo nuts and Bolts. I liked Kameo

Point is, Microsoft bought Rare for the licences and then never used them, as soon as Microsoft bought out Rare a huge amount of the talent left the company. That is why so few original xbox games were developed by Rare. Now they are a company that has the same name but none of the same developers apart from the one lead designer I think.

A lot of people who want a new entry in a franchise they liked as kids seem to be under the impression that the people who made those games are still with the company. They don't seem to realize that people leave companies. I mean, people want a new Crash Bandicoot by Naughty Dog, but the people who made those games left the company years ago.
