99% of the diaspora are Han Chinese you dumpling. China is surprising ****geneous given its huge population.

I hung out with Bataks in Sumatra, Tamils in Malaysia, Malays in Singapore, Orang Aslis in villages, Orang Utans in the jungle!, Hainanese and southern Chinese. Tibetan in Sikkim, Nepalese in Darjeeling.

I even worked with an aboriginal Taiwanese guy

Singaporian Chinese or just really Singaporeans are basically Westerners. There are some Northern Chinese Immigrants.

East Coast Park is great and there’s a wonderful hawker centre there that does the best ever sambal stingray. Mmmm! Have you been? Old Airport Road hawker centre is insane for food too! No tourists there also.

Malaysia also has similar demographics although the Malays are the majority and historically there has been more tensions between the groups. I spent some time with my Chinese-Singaporean friend in KL and he told all about it.

Lots of Chinese in the cities and of course Georgetown (and Penang as a whole). Another awesome destination for food. A couple of Malays told me the reason cats don’t have tails there is because the Chinese eat them.

Indonesia has a Chinese community although it’s significant smaller than Malaysia and Singapore (percentage wise). Obviously urban areas are where the concentrations are highest.

I spent the majority of my time in Banda Aceh in Northern Sumatra. Not many Chinese there. Indonesia is a beautiful country. Sumatra especially. Would love to go back there actually.

Met Chinese in ****kok.

Didn’t really notice a big Chinese community in the Philippines although maybe I wasn’t looking. I did spend a fair bit of time in Manila and Quezon City. But otherwise Samar and Cebu. Took an overnight boat between the two. Was cool.

Chinese all across Asia. There’s even a Chinatown in Kolkata, West Bengal. Although the community has dwindled.

Yeah thinking about Philippines history that seems obvious now. The Chinese across SE Asia seem to be concentrated in urban areas.
