Becoming infected doesn't mean that the vaccines are useless or not worth having. Like I've mentioned they provide a two-pronged attack by producing antibodies as well as inducing T cells that attack the virus if you become infected.

Pfizer has never claimed that the vaccine is 100% effective at preventing infection. In the trials it showed it was 100% at preventing death. Obviously these numbers have been reduced slightly by the different variants.

If they aren't 100% effective, they all harm some people, you still need to wear a mask and social distance, then why try and push them so much? If people don't want them, leave them alone. 99% survival chance... their body, their choice.

Vaccine is a massive help. 60% of the hospitalisations are unvaccinated in this country and the actual deaths are down exponentially. Meaning the vacc is preventing serious illness.

And this delta is a nightmare and tbf I'm not even in the loop of other variants anymore. The data is all the vaccines have provided protection against serious illness.

There are other treatments that like dex and others that work well, different ventilator settings etc. So some of it is know how now really. But ICU is full where I work and I've not been called back, operating lists are still running. It is a very very very very very different picture.

We might get locked down again but the fact we are rumbling on now was not possible before.

It is the vaccine that has helped. Nothing else. Not really.

People generally only present with Covid when they're absolutely f.ucked.

I'm not trying to correct anyone at this stage though. That ship has sailed. Do what you want but look after other people by isolating if you feel s.hit and wear a mask indoors and alcogel your hands.

I think from the beginning people have misunderstood that covid is a healthcare crisis and ultimately not something that is going to bump us all off. It is a crisis for the healthcare system and its ability to keep people alive from ALL CAUSE MORTALITY.

I don't know If that dynamic is different in America because you dont have universal healthcare. You'll step all over each other over there. It is your culture.

But...even then

In real terms, someone turns up at hospital basically turning blue. They need an ICU bed. You dont have any left. You put them on a ward. You repurpose that ward. So no more orthopaedic surgery. Heart ops? Cant do it because there are no post op ICU beds. Cancer? I dunno when we can get you in to check? Not now there are covid patients spilling out over ICU and populating general wards.

People, equipment, resources are finite. Especially when people are repurposed.

You got elderly people who you cant find places for in community. You need them gone.

And on and on and on.

So what do you actually need?

People to stop showing up in the emergency room f.ucking blue in more numbers that you can cope with.
