    Eminem is a joke

    #2
Eminem is one of the best to ever do it. Why some of the old heads refuse to give him his props is ridiculous.

Yes, his being white probably allowed him some more freedom, but his lyricism is as good as it gets. Just listen to him smack Jay-Z around on Renegade.

Its not like Em is Slim Jesus wack or that idiot in the other thread that shot the gun off while rapping.

As a diehard hip hop/ rap fan this discussion always annoys me.

Eminem is top 5 period and its not because he is white. What a dumb take, if anything he had to work twice as hard to make it in hiphop.

This would be true of Vanilla Ice, but not eminem. I remember all the rappers losing their minds when Vanilla Ice was the first rapper with a #1 hit on the Billboard charts. If anything black rappers should be thanking him for bringing the cross-over appeal which brought a lot of white dorks from the suburbs and their buying power.

Disagree I remember they tried hard to cancel him before cancel culture was "cool", remember the whole Elton John thing, the LBGTQITSYDHFNGHUT hated him .The Marshall Mathers LP song “Kim,” had a lyric censored, even on the explicit record. Even to this day they have tried to cancel him .

Melle Mel isn’t doubting Eminem‘s skills on the mic, but he does feel that he wouldn’t be ranked as high as he is if it wasn’t for the color of his skin.

The conversation came up when discussing Billboard‘s recent list of the Top 50 Rappers of All Time – where Eminem landed at No. 5.

Melle Mel, who’s No. 48 on the list, began: “Obviously he’s a capable rapper. If you was talking about sales, he’s sold more than everybody. If you were talking about rhyme style, okay he got a rhyme style. But he’s white. He’s white!"

“So now if Eminem was another n-gga like all the rest of us, would he be Top 5 on that list when a n-gga that could rhyme just as good as him is 35? That had records and all that? He’s 35. He’s white.”

            He continued...

“And anybody could be as mad … They could feel how they wanna feel. If you don’t think that race plays a part in the equation of how great he is — I heard one of the dudes that’s down with him, Royce Da 6’9″ [mislabelling Royce Da 5’9″] or one of those – I heard he’s just as good as Eminem. Why he ain’t as big as Eminem? Because he’s Black! Ain’t none of that **** hard to figure out. Eminem gets a top spot because he’s white.”

I meant from an lyrical perspective.

Yeah. He killed that when he appeared with Elton John at that awards show.

Imo his lyrical consistency made it impossible to cancel him.

He was also brilliant the way he used his videos to pole at things.

Yeah he really pissed off certain parts of America- but they hated Dre and Snoop before him so you knew it was coming.

Royce wasnt as connected to Dr Dre. He also imo isnt as nice as Em, but he is dope.

The thing people dont get is Dre and NWA were so huge in white America. No radio airplay and they went double platinum.

Crowds at concerts were predominantly white. Same with Snoop. Em was just next up.

lyrically elite, a Dre protege, that could better connect with the Dre/NWAs core fanbase because they could relate to him and a look that MTV loved.

Added to that he did it the hard way- battle raps, cyphers, lyricist lounge.

Cant hate on this dude imo.

I was never into his music because I dont get that cool vibe from his style. His flow sounds nerdy and his high pitched voice makes it worse. Dude sounds like a chipmunk. He has no swag either.
