[REAL TALK] Canada feeling the migrant influx —Roxham

    Interesting CNN article
    Straining the system

Lately, this scene has been repeating itself more often, prompting Canadian officials to bus recently arrived asylum-seekers to other provinces to help deal with a strain on resources in Quebec.

The Canadian government documented a record 3,901 unauthorized migrant entries into Quebec in 2022, nearly all at Roxham Road.

In January, which is the latest month on record, 4,875 asylum-seekers crossed unlawfully – more than double the number from the same time last year.

“These numbers are a dramatic increase from the numbers we’re used to seeing in Canada,” said Abdulla Daoud, executive director of The Refugee Centre, a non-profit just north of the border in Montreal which helps guide asylum-seekers.

Well like all politicians— they lie all the time.
But most people buy their lies.

I’m sure Canada will accept legal immigration, just like we will in America.

We have a housing crisis in this country that is completely out of hand. We have let in so many legal immigrants without giving the least amount of thought to where they will all live, and now no one can afford to live here and have nowhere to go. As a result, The average cost of rent for a 1 bedroom in Vancouver is $3,000 a month (some go for $4,000), up $500 a month in less than a year, and you're lucky if you can find one to rent. 50 people show up immediately whenever there is a vacancy, and it's gone in a second. Landlords find illegal ways to evict tenants and triple the rent. We need to shut down all immigration and ban foreign students from coming here. We also need to ban foreign real estate ownership, which has depleted the availability of housing and driven up the cost. It's worse here in Vancouver, but it has become out of hand everywhere now in the country, and it's a huge political issue. A conservative government is now forecasted to easily win a majority in the next federal election as a result, but the situation is so far gone, I don't see how they can reverse things, but they can at least stop it from getting worse.

Wow! I know a Chinese guy at work and he’s from Vancouver and he said his parents came in the 70’s . But, Chinese real estate companies bought so much real estate that he can’t afford to move back home. He said basically long term home owners & renters are feeling the pain of ******* immigration laws and have no ability to cope with illegal immigration.

he said too many Chinese foreign students come in and drive up rental prices.

min Silicon Valley, gentrification and corruption have caused a lot of older apartments to be condemned and rebuilt with high rents.

All true, but it's the legal, not the illegal immigration, that is more of the problem. The idiots in government never considered that if you don't have a surplus of vacant available housing to accommodate all the people you are letting in, you are going to have a problem. The population went from 30 million to 40 million in a blink of an eye. Here in Vancouver, builders can't get the trades or heavy equipment rentals to build what they currently have permits to build because everything is at full steam. The building I live in was renovated, and what was supposed to be a 10-month project took 2 1/2 years to complete because of delays. It was bad enough when you were forced to leave for elsewhere in the country, but now, although to a lesser degree, the rest of the country is also facing the same crisis, just not as bad as here. China has bought up huge amounts of the country. The Chinese bought up all the farm land in the US, apparently.
