I wouldn't say that was true, tbh, although obviously less power than has been typical for most of the past 2,000 years where a lot of the time he was comfortably the most powerful man on earth.

Still fairly powerful. Over a billion catholics on earth and the Pope can still be ex cathedra meaning he is infallible on matters of morality with statements binding all those billion believers to accept that doctrine.

Which shows how naive 95% of the human race is and that includes the Hindus and the religion of 'Peace'.

The bitter truth is hard to face.

          Death is the end.

I have no problem with it.

The real face of religion is the widow lighting a candle for her dead husband/kid as opposed to to an extremist spreading hate.

            It gives comfort to billions.

Fair enough, I understand that but religious extremists are the most dangerous people on the planet because they think they are going to a paradise.

I never understand how folks somehow know the runners and riders.

I had someone telling me it was sure to be some Maltese cardinal. Which to me sounded unlikely. It's a tiny country.

Cynically I'm sure these old cardinals think about soft power. There is over 60 million catholics in the States and what the world outside the US largely regards as a loose cannon in the white house. It was a short conclave.

Brazil, Mexico, Philippines, US will likely where the Pope's come from now until the end of time if I'd have to bet on it. Purely because that's where the catholics are. Or maybe an Irish Pope because of the Irish Diaspora.
