I used to run track in high school, mind you, that was like 8 years ago, I am a good runner but through the years I stopped running, put on 20 lbs, and drink a bit. I finally started to run again over the past month and been working on my endurance. First I started doing 2 miles and that was pretty f'n hard, I almost puked but over the month(I've been running 5 out of 7 days), I've been better. I ran today from about 9:30 am till 11 and did 6 miles. That was with a 10 minute break between.

If I don't run for months, my cardio goes down and I aim for 5 KM, which must be 3 miles.
However if you are very out of shape, I tell people to target 2 KM which is just over a mile. (1.6 KM is 1 mile)
The thing about jogging is consistency, you got to maintain that cardio and get use to the legs being in pain. Now, I haven't run much at all and cycle only, but I can cycle 20 miles easily.
