Dallas Jury Reaches Verdict In Amber Guyger Trial

Dallas Jury Reaches Verdict In Amber Guyger Trial ?Guilty Of Murder

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) ?A jury in Dallas has reached a decision in the Amber Guyger trial. They found the 31 year old guilty of murder.

Around 10:30 a.m. more than half a dozen law enforcement officers filed into the courtroom, in anticipation of the verdict.

Guyger was on trial for the 2018 shooting death of her neighbor Botham Jean.

Judge Tammy Kemp had given jurors three options: finding Guyger guilty verdict for murder, guilty of manslaughter or not guilty verdict. Jurors began deliberations on Monday but did not reach a decision after deliberating just a few hours.

Jurors resumed deliberations Tuesday and the alert on the jury room lit several times during the morning. First jurors sent a question to the court asking about definitions for the charge of Manslaughter and about the Castle Doctrine.

Then about 9:45 a.m. the jury call button lit up again, but it was never announced exactly why they summoned the court.

Then, at 10:43 a.m. Judge Kemp took the stand and announced, “We the jury find the defendant, Amber Guyger, guilty of murder as charged in the indictment.?br />
The judge asked defense lawyers if they wanted to have the jury polled and they declined.

The judge immediately called a recess and announced that court would resume at 1:00 p.m.

Murder is surprising but probably is correct verdict.

Murder conviction + lenient murder penalty

    Or

Manslaughter conviction + harsh manslaughter penalty

1 of those 2 would be the correct combination

At least 10 yrs, be out in half time?

Good she deserves it. An innocent man died because of her incompetence, and if you look into her you can see she is some one who has made plenty of poor decisions.
Hope the family gets closure, and sues the hell out of the police department.

I don't have a problem with that verdict. A man is dead because of her carelessness and incompetence. She probably never should have been a cop to begin with.

Does 1st degree murder imply ‘intent? Did she go into the dude’s apartment with the intent to murder? I guess that’s what the jury thought

As I understand it, murder of any class implies intent. The difference between 1st and 2nd degree is the degree of the intent.
First degree murder falls into one of the following two categories:

            Premeditated, intentional killings
            Felony murder

While second degree murder is either:

            An unplanned, intentional killing; or
A death caused by a reckless disregard for human life

She didn't plan on going to his apartment and killing him, but the jury determined that she certainly intended to kill him when she shot him. They also weren't convinced that she did enough to save him afterward; something that might have clouded the intent question. A second degree murder charge seems to be the correct decision.

I dont think its 1st degree murder, I think its just murder. They arent saying its premeditated, but its not an accident so not manslaughter, and they didnt buy the self defense story, so its murder because point blank she chose to kill him. Thats how I understand it.

Surprised she got murder. Seemed like a manslaughter conviction to me. But I aint watch the trial I was just going off the story that seemed like it was just a massive f#ck up by her.

                Wonder how long she gets.

You should be found guilty of murder when you kill someone in their own apartment. That man was eating a bowl of ice cream and he got murdered by this woman who thought he was a "burglar". How many burglars stop and eat ice cream during a burglary?

She is guilty, and should have never been a cop to begin. It was obvious when I watch the videos of her reaction that she has no business being involved in a stressful and emergency type situation career. Now she can enjoy the rest of her career in jail. Just a shame someone had to lose his life because she’s an incompetent moron
