According to the article there will be a cost to remove them.

But how much of the cost has to do with that? The bathrooms here are sort of an after thought I think, they aren't at all the reason why this remodel was set to take place.

It's also nearly double the initial estimate provided in 2013 to address water infiltration issues and other long-identified defects.
