Let's break down how this works:

1. CNN invents a "major issue" by covering one freak event 24 hours a day until it creates the illusion that it's something happening all the time. For example "police hunting unarmed black men" (approx 10 per year in a country of 330 million. Ridiculously low, barely a thing, statistically almost impossible to improve upon).

2. People instinctively know what CNN is trying to do; but CNN pretends the "masses" are outraged and tells you that if you aren't outraged too, you must be a dumb uncle Tom ****phobe!

3. Natural human reaction to that is: "Whoa, no! I'm no fool! I'm totally outraged!"

4. Millions of real people join the imaginary masses to be outraged about a controversy their marketing team invented.

5. Anyone who criticizes what they're doing is "outed" as being "one of the people orchestrating the systematic thing!". So even though 99% of the country thinks it's ******ed, everyone is terrified to single themselves out.
