    Silva-Sonnen Rematch is set

Dana White: Chael Sonnen rematch up next for UFC champ Anderson Silva
Despite his loss at UFC 117, Chael Sonnen has earned an immediate rematch with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

UFC president Dana White, who's busy with a final media blitz for this week's UFC 118 event in Boston, today confirmed the plans while on ESPN's "SportsCenter," though a date has not been determined for the rematch.

Sonnen dominated four and a half rounds of the Aug. 7 fight before Silva scored a come-from-behind triangle-choke victory in the fifth and final round.

As MMAjunkie.com () reported immediately after the Oakland, Calif. fight, White acknowledged fans' desire for the rematch, but initially he was noncommittal about Silva (27-4 MMA, 12-0 UFC) vs. Sonnen (25-11-1 MMA, 4-4 UFC) II.

"It's definitely a rematch I think people are going to want to see," White said after the event "Looking at Twitter, everybody is saying, 'Rematch. Rematch.' We'll see what happens. Vitor is waiting to fight right now, too. We could do the rematch with Chael, but we'll see what happens. We'll see how it goes."

White's initial reluctance may have been in part due to Vitor Belfort, who was slated to fight Silva until an injury opened the door for Sonnen. Belfort is expected to fight in November, but he's no longer fighting for a title.

Sonnen, of course, heavily hyped the UFC 117 bout with an endless ****** of trash-talk. Many fans snickered at Sonnen's bold predictions of victory ?Silva, after all, had soundly defeated the 11 previous opponents the UFC put before him ?but according to CompuStrike, Sonnen scored 51 strikes to Silva's two in the first round. And through three rounds, he had opened a 218-to-11 gap.

Sonnen continued the lopsided beatdown until the fifth round, when Silva capitalized on one of his opponent's few mistakes and secured a fight-ending triangle choke at the 3:10 mark of the final round.

The rematch is now expected to take place later this year or in early 2011.

It didn't look fixed at all. both Sonnen and Silva were trying to take each other out at every opportunity.

The only off thing about this fight was Silva had a rib injury and his doctor instructed him not to fight but he did anyway. Which would explain his lack of head movement. But a lot of fight fans realized the possiblity of this fight being played out the way it was. Sonnen was already thought of to have the style to give Silva lots of trouble. And Sonnen is also very vulnerable to submissions, so this fight wasn't a complete surprise.

I know it was just a crazy thought that ranned thru my mind. Sonnen was landing haymakers that wouldv'e taken out any other fighter. Looking forward to the rematch though thanx for da 411.

Chael could go to 205 and take that belt without breaking a sweat.

lol, that division would eat him alive. Not only is everyone bigger and stronger in that division, but its the most stacked division in the UFC right now. No way Chael beats any of the top 10 guys in that division with his GnP style.

chael doesnt deserve a rematch... he lost.. contenders should never get immediate remathces unless they lose a close contraversial decision..

Man, I don't like Sonnen at all but I think the immediate rematch is needed for some reasons...

BUT Dana White / Joe Silva need to stop doing that ****. No more immediate rematches unless the fight went to decision and was a robbery.

It'll end up downgrading the value of their champions. WTF is that ****? you beat someone fair and squarely then you need to beat him again to make it count?

What if BJ beats edgar in the rematch? Another immediate rematch to settle things up? Same question: What if Sonnen beats Anderson? they'll be 1-1.

If UFC gave an immediately rematch to the challenger then the former champion deserves an immediately rematch too.

It's a vicious cycle. It simply wont end well for the UFC. Obviously the easiest thing is to do is a rematch... But on the long term... I don't know.

As I said, I'm up for this one but NO MORE. No MAS, basta!
