Dave Tiberi vs. James Toney - GOAT ROBBERY?!

Just watched this fight after looking through some compubox stats. . .

and HOW did Tiberi not win this fight? It wasn't even close?!

439 punches to 160? And yes, I know punch stats aren't the best indication of the deserved winner, but for this fight it goes hand in hand with how obvious the outcome was. . .

Horrible robbery. Toney never showed up for this fight and it showed. Greatest robbery of all time? I wouldn't go that far, but it was a terrible injustice and Tiberi retired because of it. Personaly I think the fight should have been declared a no contest as soon as it was revealed two of the judges were not licensed.

Here's an interesting interview with tiberi.

excellent article JAB! Of course there will always be excuses lingering around when a fighter loses a fight he shouldn't lose. . . Personally, I think Tiberi just was the better man. . .

Good to hear he at least didn't go down a bad route, and contributed positive things, using his notoriety to help the sport and others in it. . .

I can only think of a few fights that rival that robbery - chavez/whitaker, lewis/holyfield. . . any others? im sure there are some worse from back in the 30's when corruption was probably much more rampant.

Johnson vs Pastrano was a nasty one although that wasn't the 30's.

That fight was during my time at Galaxy. James was easily the better fighter but James' problem with making weight was taking it's toll. I thought that Tiberi clearly won the fight........Rockin'

Tiberi was the better man that night, I'll give him that. As far as other robberies, there are dozens. Whitaker-Ramirez, Casamoyer-Kid Diamond, Fitzsimmons-Sharkey...it's endless really.

I thought Tiberi won too. But remember compubox stats have little to do with scoring. It is not 100% accurate and does not show who landed the more telling or harder blows. Actually it would be great for amateur boxing, alot better than what they are using now.
I could probably think of many worse and more significant bad decisions than this one.

i didn't just base it off compubox stats, but i think the stats definitely tell the tale of the fight. . . toney didn't do shyt!

i thought the one card 117-111 was appropriate (in favor of tiberi). . . this was deinfiely up there with the worst robberies. . .

johnson/pastrano was dastardly, but not as bad as this. . . whitaker-ramirez is about the same. .. both ramirez and toney maybe won two rounds. . . casamayor/kid diamond not quite as bad as toney/tiberi and whitaker/ramizer. . . At least it wasn't a loss. . . this is DEFINITELY one of the worst. . .

i can't speak on sharkey/fitz as ive never seen the fight. . . is there footage of it out there?

No robbery is more outrageous than Coggi-Gonzalez 1

That's not winning 8 rounds and losing/drawing. That's scoring a stoppage or DQ win on three different occasions and losing the fight.

Toney relied on gift decisions and steroids to "win" fights.
