Great fighterbut highly overrated. like oscar he lost to most of the ATG's he faced

went 1-5 agianst the fab five

1. leonard- was 1-2 qon a close split decision in the first fight quit in embarrassing fashion in the rematch

2. Hagler--lost a wide UD

3. Benitez--lost a wide UD

4. Hearns-- brutal ko

was 12-7 in championship fights, only amassed 12 title defenses out of 100 + fights.

at the time he was fighting he was not considered the best, so how can people now want to turn around and say he had a better career then ray and tommy when he didn't do much after beating leaonard the first time at the age of 29

How does he have 12 title defenses, but only 12 wins in championship fights? You have to win the championship before you defend it.

Anyway, he is glorified in his lightweight run, losing once to an extremely good fighter, and he convincingly avenged that loss with two very resounding wins against the same fighter.

He moved up to welter and beat one of the best fighters of all time in Ray Leonard.

He also won a belt at SMW against a good fighter in Iran Barkley.

He's one of those fighters that you actually have to look at his record to see why he is great instead of just relying on names.

His very short career is the reason he is not ranked higher.

His prime came and went pretty quickly.

The longevity just wasn't there for him to be ranked higher.

I do think he is probably the best fighter without a long career though, by far.

I definitely have ray top ten hearns and hagler top 15 and duran and benitez top 30.

duran's career was alot of smoke and mirriors nobody talked about this guy when he was fighting in the 80's because he was always getting his ass whipped

go to boxrec and look it up 12 title defenses at 135 and fafter that no more. he pretty much didn't fight for or win many champisohip fights after 135 unlike floyd and sweet pea who remained dominat outside of their inital weight

anybody can rackup a record against a bunch of tomatoo cans but duran's active championship careers is what I am looking at and I am not impressed
