Canelo’s Resume vs Pacquiao’s Resume

Broner, Vargas, Bradley and Thurman.
That's pretty ****ing good for a guy around 40 yo
On what planet is that "dominating a new WW era"?
For starts, Broner and Vargas aren't top WW's and they weren't of the new era either. Bradley was a top WW, but he wasn't of the new era of WW's either. Thurman was of the new era, and that's the only win he has over the new WW era of the time.
The new Era of WW's at that time were Brook, Spence, Porter, Crawford, Thurman. He fought one of them whilst they all fought each other mostly.
After that KO to Marquez, he was never #1 at WW ever again, he lost to Mayweather, then lost to Jeff Horn, whilst picking up some good wins but was never close to "dominating" and was barely even in the picture in all honesty, hovered around the #4-#5 mark while all the actual new era were fighting over who the next guy would be.
So let's just stick to what actually happened as opposed to what objectively didn't.joseph5620

Resume isn’t just a list of names
manny was capable of dominating in his big fights
Alvarez seldom showed that high level of performancecharliepaerker likes this.

He was however #2 at WW and #2 P4P when he lost to Floyd, also an objective fact.
How is that "singing a different tune" to what I said in my post in any way what so ever?

You think beating Adrien Broner and Keith Thurman is a better resume than beating Eastman, Tarver, Winky Wright, Pavlik, Pascal, Cloud and Shumenov?

Don't think there is much of a argument for Canelo over Pacquiao, first ballot for Hall Of Famer for sure. But debatable if he is a shallow end of a All Time Great.
Canelo's resume is a mix of stay busy fights, declining boxing icons with disadvantaged conditions, and wins over good fighters like Kirkland, Trout, Jacobs, Saunders, Smith Brothers, Plant and Etc.
His best wins over Hall Of Famers are likely Cotto, Lara and GGG in the rematch. Though last two are debatable if he won.
Whereas Pacquiao beat champions in their ideal weight divisions, although some few had declined by the time he beat them like Morales in the rematch, Mosley and De La Hoya. He beat Vargas, Broner, Matthysse, Barrera X2, Morales X2, Marquez X2 (debatable), De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Bradley X2, Matthysse and Thurman.
Also like another poster said, performances also matter, Pacquiao won convincingly while Alvarez rarely displayed dominance over his most difficult opposition that he beat and lost to.Last edited by Malvado; 06-28-2024, 03:31 PM.shwaap likes this.
