He definitely has boxing fundamentals. You don't make it in the olympics team and get bronze by not knowing boxing. If that is the case, any random person can go in and win medals, but you know that is not possible. He has beaten guys that he is supposed to beat, and he has beaten boxers with good skills like luis ortiz when he was being avoided. He is not as skilled as fury, yet he managed to knock fury down and hurt fury multiple times. AJ avoided wilder when wilder was at his most dangerous and was in his prime. His problem was that he relies on power way too much and neglected what he has learned in boxing because the power came too easy and he was sleeping guys.

Deontay Wilder, Jay Deas, Shelly Finkel.

There was one world class operator in that grouping.

Deas was amateur level. Wilder was fringe contender level. Finkel created an American Heavyweight Champion of the World when he really had nothing to work with.

An incredible achievement for Finkel. Credit where it's due.

Wilder was awful, a total smoke and mirrors hype job creation by a music industry crook who applied the music industry formula to Wilder. Manufacture a non talent with synthesizers, bells & whistles, media promo and scripted choreographies. He was nothing but a bum with no class. They built him up and bought the title from Stiverne and then targeted Fatso Fury for the big kill, after dodging Joshua. But Fury could beat bum Wilder with an arm tied behind his back. And the story ended there. Wilder was nothing, that's why they had to duck Povetkin and Whyte too. Now that Wilder has no leverage and no drawing power they had to risk him vs Zhang and that fight showed Wilder is nothing on his own. He never was anything. Haymon fooled a few fools with the show but astute observers knew from the getgo. The moment of truth was when AJ and Hearn tried to get Wilder early but team Wilder faked the negotiations for PR reasons.

Wilder never had anything. Joshua Hearn tried to get Wilder early but Haymon Finkel knew their fraud had no chance and had to fake negotiations and make phony bluff offers. You got rope a doped by a total fraud pal. You got fooled by a total pretender.

Haymon was the choreographer of the Wilder fraud. Finkel was the partner in the scam. Deas was the towel boy.

He’s one of the worst world champion HW’s in the history of boxing. The dude lost easily to Fury, Zhang, Parker the only 3 decent fighters he ever fought. Where was his power in those fights?

He can knockout trash and bums which isn’t impressive to me.
To be fair, he nearly KO'd Fury in their first fight and gave him a tough fight in their 3rd encounter. Having dropped Fury 3 times in 3 fights. Someone as bad as everyone's stating should not be dropping Fury and nearly KOing him, right?

That said, his aura of invincibility vanished after the 2nd Fury fight. He was never the same.

Steve Cunningham and an MMA guy making his boxing debut dropped Fury too. Not saying Wilder isnt a big hitter, but I think its fair to say that the Wilder fights really flattered Fury and made him look much better than he really is.

actually no... wilder was just match up carefully that's how he was able to get away with it. soon as he stepped in against a decent comp, his power/snake bite didnt work against a mongoose.

Well, some could argue that Fury took Ngannou lightly. Fury trained his brains out for Wilder because he knew what Wilder was capable of if he had a moment of lapse.

I just think Wilder gets too much hate around here when he was doing what folks that love heavyweights do, get KOs. If you had a heavyweight division full of decision fighters, who would really care about the division much? It was always about the big knockout and Wilder was delivering that. It's crazy how the fans can sometimes hate on some of its most giving back to the sport type fighters.

Tim Bradley said it best that these days a lot of the newer fighters want to TAKE from boxing all that they can. In the past, it wasn't just about taking everything, but giving back to the sport that gave you everything. That meant giving fans the fights they want. Being in high risk fights often and going after legacy. Now with Turki, it's about scoring those mega paychecks while navigating a low risk high reward path. Is this what fans prefer to see nowadays? How can the sport survive long term like this?
