Comments Thread For: Big fight Would Be Nice, But We’re Not Without Options

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Let’s begin by dispensing with a few formalities.

To those who haven’t yet grasped it, I’m a columnist. I get paid by the person who runs this website to write pieces that are often based on my opinion. That gives me a responsibility to be aware of facts surrounding the themes I write about, but it also gives me the freedom to call things as I see them.

So to all who’ve read my pieces in the past and suggested I’m “racist?or “biased?or being “paid off?by one person or another simply because my views are not in lockstep with yours; have someone read that previous paragraph to you a couple more times until it’s really understood.

It’ll save your mom, your girlfriend or your parole officer the trouble of having to type up your ridiculously illiterate responding emails, and it’ll save me the hassle of deleting them.

OK, now that that’s been taken care of, we can get on with some other Tuesday business.

When it comes to the would-be Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown that everyone seems to want to talk about again these days, it may not surprise you to hear I’ve got some opinions, too.

First off, I won’t believe the fight is going to happen until I see the two guys gloved and trunked in the center of a ring, with Kenny Bayless (or whomever else) giving final instructions. Second off, though some insist too much of their peak time has passed for it to still be a relevant competition, I believe that it’s still the best fight out there to be made, and I do truly hope it happens sometime in 2015.

And third off, if the waters part and it really does take place, I think Mayweather flat-out dominates. [Click Here To Read More]

Great read especially the beginning lol. I still don't see how fighting 140lbers is on par with fighting 147,154, or 160lbers lol... sounds like someone ducking the whole welterweight division kinda like asshats say Mayweather did when he briefly retired after whooping Hatton. I can only imagine the emails this poor guy gets from the Pac ****s lol!

lol much of this article reads like a guide on how Mayweather can try to come out looking better than Pacquiao without actually having to fight Pacquiao.

Anyway, in terms of options, I think Floyd has Khan if AK wins, whereas Pacquiao doesn't have anyone left to fight.

That's bull**** because Kell Brook is the IBF Welterweight title holder and not Haymon managed... no excuse!!!!! Fight a legit ranked welterweight who has a title, in his prime, undefeated, and a better choice than Al*****i was or Jesse **** Vargas ffs! Manny would have two titles just like Floyd except Floyd is the lineal champ. Manny can also fight Andrade for a legit 154lb title so he can actually call himself an 8 division champ.

Until I read about the latest potential earnings Floyd would miss by not signing to fight Manny, I could not believe the fight would happen; however, now that Floyd is positioned to earn $100,000,000+ from one fight, I have to believe that $$$Money$$$ Mayweather has just met his match. As they say, everyone has his price.

Hey ... that's exactly what I thought while I was reading this.

Given the ridiculous amount of money being talked about now, if Floyd doesn't fight Manny he will always be remembered as the guy who called himself TBE, but wouldn't fight his No.1 challenger for what would have been the biggest purse in boxing history.

On Floyd vs Cotto, the fact that Floyd could soon be walking around calling himself "The Lineal Middleweight Champion of the World" after beating a super-welterweight he has already beaten once before, perfectly illustrates the unholy mess boxing is in today.

I'm not a Floyd hater but I believe the sport would be better off without him. He has too much power and sucks too much money and interest away from other fighters who need a bit of both.

The money and the interest in boxing will still be there after Floyd has gone. And maybe I'm being wildly optimistic here, but I think there is at least a chance that some of it will end up being invested in fights the fans actually want to see.

Mayweather is the 147 WBC/WBA Super/Ring Magazine Champ, 154 WBC/WBA Super/Ring Magazine Champ, and if he fights Cotto for the 160 titles and wins he'll have the 160 WBC/Ring Magazine titles........147 WBC/WBA Super/Ring Magazine, 154 WBC/WBA Super/Ring Magazine, 160 WBC/Ring Magazine sounds like a very difficult record for any fighter in the future to ever topple......Mayweather vs Cotto 2 in May, Mayweather vs Pacquiao in September, retiring 49-0 with more money and health than any other boxer in history would make Mayweather TBE for real

And it's two articles since the Algieri fight Fitzsimmons has written why Mayweather and Pacquiao not fighting is a good option. You'd swear he's scared of Mayweather getting in the ring with Pacquiao.

And of course he can't write an article without pretending he's a better person and fan than everyone else.

This guy writes articles that are so bad he has to start them with a disclaimer.
