Who has a better defense? Marcos Maidana or Lucas Matthysse?

Between the two Argentine boxers, who is better defensively? Vote and discuss.

In March 2014, Floyd Mayweather was asked about Maidana. He said,

"I know about Maidana. In the sport of boxing he makes noise. He reminds me of Arturo Gatti, but he don't take as much punishment. He dishes out more punishment than he takes."

    Source:

In my opinion, Lucas Matthysse's gift is punching. He can box a little and set up his defense, but there are holes in his defense. Late in fights Matthysse gets caught by some of the heavy stuff thrown at him, i.e. his fights against Danny Garcia and Ruslan Provodnikov. Both Garcia and Ruslan landed bombs on Lucas late in their fights.

I mean, when's the last time you've seen Maidana get caught slipping like this?

If you didn't know by now, Maidana knows how to roll punches against top-flight competition. Can Lucas?

Chino. He is such an unorthodox wild boxer that his subtleties get ignored. He actually baited Floyd into a jab to counter him.

Head to head I have no doubt Maidana's grit, resistance, and will KO Lucas; and this is coming from someone who wants Lucas to win every fight

I thought the Maidana from the second Mayweather fight could beat almost everyone at Welterweight.

Maidana doesn't get caught with big shots like Matthysse. Maybe we'll see them fight each other some day. Now there's a good question: How often do Argentines fight each other? Answer: Not very.

Yeah, Maidana's main issue is running out of gas in the second half of fights that go the distance. He doesn't get drilled with big shots as much as Matthews does.

              I'd say Matthysse.

                Good post.

Maidana never stands straight up. He always moves his head. When Marcos sees his opponent is trying to load up, he relaxes, takes a deep breath, and proceeds to roll, slip, dip, catch, and block the incoming punches. After the assault Maidana answers with a chopping left hook and right hand to the dome, winning the exchange.

Damn, that's a powerful statement. I have to agree with you. Good post. Green k sent.

You're not supposed to match punchers against punchers. That shortens both their careers. Just look at Trinidad-Vargas. They slowed each other down. Maidana and Matthysse would do the same.

                Very good post.

Maidana does gas out, but surprisingly he knows how to box tired. He's effective too.

Maidana does a lot stuff which gets ignored because of his wild style. His foot speed and the speed and his over hand right speed is not slow. He gets bunched in with the basic slow footed punching bags. He was out boxing Floyd in spots countering him. His weakness is he runs out of gas.

Mosley: His defence is good, its unexpected. Guys think they can punch with him but he moves in and out. He can slip, duck and get into positions to time you. One of many opponents talking about his underrated boxing skills. Check out what Bradley, Judah, Alexander and Corley had to say. Lets not nitpick, Ortiz ain't dropping Matthysse 2 or 3 times. Garcia has made people dance with that left hook and Molina hits freakishly hard accoding to all his sparring partners.
