this is extremely dissapointing, but to frame this as some kind of an outlet for ward being a diva without knowing any facts is absolutely ridiculous.



i was excited for the fight. hadn't been excited for a ward fight since rodriguez, which was getting on years ago, now. i hope it pulls through. in time, andre ward won't be the fighter he was because of the inactivity. he'll get worse and worse. he may already be on the downside because of it. i didn't think his legs looked what they were when he fought mikkell kessler.

I have no problem with what he said. He doesn't have a contract yet, big deal. When he gets one he'll sign it and it will be official. It better be Barrera though, anything less than that and he'll be laughed at more than he already is

Barrera is a really tough fight. I think that's why the contract isn't signed. He wants another Paul Smith type, a non-contender who sort of looks contenderish but doesn't have a chance against any semblance of a top tier fighter. Paul Smith is MW/SMW in size, maybe Ward can get Nathan Cleverly, someone coming up or blown up and old.

Ward's management issues came after he unified the division and won the lineal title. Why would he go fight in Panama at that stage in his career when he was the man to beat in that division? He was worth a lot more at that stage i n his career. Those situations aren't remotely comparable.

From his perspective, he cleaned out his division and became the true champion. So now, he wants to be rewarded. That's all it is.

His issue is his he thinks he's worth more than he is and doesn't want the outside stuff that comes with being a boxing star: promoting yourself, staying in the public light, giving opponents their biggest paydays, etc.

It's hard to stay active in boxing given the amount of negotiating it takes to make a fight and getting opponents approved.

ward's management issues were brought on primarily by himself. goossen got him good paydays, fights at home [or AC] in the SS. he had a good thing going. 2 million dollars for edwin rodriguez! somebody got in ward's ear and told him he should start holding out for ppv money before the time had come. you can look at kelly pavlik losing his mind, ward's shoulder injury prior to the pavlik cancellation, as reasons why he was inactive as well. those are legit. also add in the hand injury leading into the froch fight [whcih he fought anyway,] and the knee injury / swelling that sidelined him from the cotto - canelo undercard. still, you cannot discount that ward had a very favorable situation under goossen, and still held out / sued him. he even re-signed with the guy in '12! whose fault is that?


in reailty, the move to make was to keep active and on network TV thrice a year until mayweather retired. then you could start to make your movev [hold out] toward PPV money. it's no coincidence that these guys are starting to headline PPV on their own and branch out into fights that go beyond HBO or showtime money now that floyd's gone, and manny is on his way out the door.

the advent of mayweather's retirement should ahve been the signal for ward and his team to start to hold out for PPV money. they screwed up, and it cost andre quite a few fights, and several million dollars.

I don't think it's that. I still think the fight goes off. My frustration is I was under the impression that this was a done deal but now we're a little over 2 months away and no fight yet.
