You must contend with the reality that a sizable portion of the Mexican fan base will throw its support behind Golovkin. Not 80%, but when you give the fans what they want to see. they in return give you the respect you deserve and Golovkin did exactly that that’s why he is now a force to be reckoned with. GGG as of now is the most respected and appreciated fighter on the planet and #1 MW champion.

Because the way he has been talking his ass off criticizing and insulting his opponent lately, just the same as his big mouth trainer, the fact that he fought a tiny much smaller Brook, the fact that many people think he didn't defeat Jacobs (I do think he defeated him though), the fact that he fought almost 100% defensively against the only real puncher he has faced (Lemieux) and his boring robotic style of fighting, doesn't help hm at all, in matching the popularity of real fan pleasers, 100% action fighters such as Pacquiao and Lomachenko. I really don't think he is more respected and appreciated than those two, worldwide. But to each their own.

It may be an imaginary 80% but it’s definitely more than 50%. GGG is so much easier to root for. Comes to fight. Puts on a show and has alot of fun doing it. Its takes some serious effort to get behind Clenelo. Hes too much a diva!

Canelo is simply more popular and stands up for himself that way. He built his fan base. And, with obviously no PEDs, he beat GGG, fully legit, no excuses allowed from you GGG fans. Even Abel praised Canelo for winning. SO IOW, just move past this.

People love this guy so much because he's a true man of the sport. He is the best pound for pound out there and its hard to hate him. Those Mexican fans will never ever forget that, Golovkin is such a class act.

Canelo vs Beefy: 50K fans in a TX stadium... when Beefy has almost zero fanbase here in the States. THAT is the level of Canelo's popularity. GGG vs anyone besides Canelo would've been a third that attendance. Like your guy all you want, just don't try to escape facts. And now, obviously PED free, Canelo beats GGG. Close fight, yes... but a definite win, a definite career best performance for Canelo and a weaker performance from GGG because he was fighting Canelo at his peak. And Canelo may even get better, from all indications, looking back on past fight history as he's come along in the sport. GGG was marginalized by a better fighter, and if he fights Canelo another time it will be the same, likely worse for him. GGG has class, yes, but Canelo isn't a diva, he just insists he be respected. And his popularity gives him every bit of that right.
