BJS and Smith have all the leverage

Oscar De La Hoya and GBP are the absolute worst when it comes to negotiating a fight.

Ive never seen anything like it.

It’s allowing Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders to control the negotiations.

There’s only two things that can happen now.

    1. GBP improves the offer to Smith or Saunders and makes a fight.

    2. Canelo Alvarez fights someone no one wants to see him fight.

Why are these the only two options? Because GBP screwed everything up.

First, they publicly pigeon holed a four division fighter into one division.

If this didn’t happen, GBP could pretend that Canelo might fight Andrade, Murata, Charlo, GGG, Smith, Saunders, Plant, Benavidez, Bivol or Beterbiev. Instead, they basically announced (because of the PBC-Golden Boy issues) that they were only considering Smith or Saunders.

GBP also publicly announced that multiple options fell through.

So even though it already seemed like Smith and Saunders were the front runners, there was further confirmation that Murata and Charlo were out of the picture.

They also dismissed potential fights that can be used as negotiating tools as non-options.

Why not use Bivol, Beterbiev or GGG to gain leverage with Smith and Saunders? Instead they basically announced those fights won’t happen.

They also allowed a fighter (Plant) who could have been used as a negotiating tool to publicly dismiss the idea of a fight before ever approaching him and negotiating. Why announce they were turning to Plant? Why not just do it?

Eddie Hearn must be laughing his head off. He knows GBP has to sweeten the pot for Smith and Saunders or risk running Alvarez-Lemieux as the headliner. The only concern for Smith and Saunders at this point is if one of them will take less money.

My prediction is Saunders will take less money and secure the fight, but still make more than what was originally offered.

Dont think for a second they wont take a stay busy fight in Murata. GPB will rightfully control the narrative that hes become the boogie man and the division is shook. BJS and Smith aren't factors in the american market they're totally interchangeable and wont even fight each other.

... Since GGG, Canelo fought "Hearn's guys" exclusively... (Fielding, Jacobs, Kovalev)... In fact, Canelo is cited as asking: "Eddie who do you have for me next?"...

... Canelo just low-balled BJS and Smith, to be more precise... But I hope it's only about negotiating...

Well that remains to be seen, they could end up both looking pretty ****** if Canelo just goes with someone who's more willing to fight for less, but the thing is all they gotta do is keep winning (or at least getting the nod off the judges ) and they can line up at the buffet again in September and twice a year until Canelo runs out of other options.

This shit is the biggest single problem with the 'Vegas Cash Cow model' of boxing... it kinda becomes a weird race to the bottom amongst potential opponents. When a single cashcow fight can earn more than a whole career fighting regular guys it actually makes the most financial sense to take the absolute minimum risk possible to keep yourself in contention once you've reached the kinda level where you might get chosen.

Not entirely. GBP played Smith and BJS off against each other. Looks like BJS wanted the fight more

The reality is that GBP knows Smith and BJS are in turmoil to make 168. It’s quite possible that DAZN scratch their heads not understanding the WADA vs VADA rules. Making serious offers to Smith and BJS, meaning actual offers sent, DAZN has those as fact. Hearn would much rather have BJS vs Smith since these guys can take Oxilofrine and agree to doing VADA late in the UK. I think the WBA has no choice but to apply VADA with their agreement for Championship fights.

It’s like when GGG or Usyk had VADA testing literally at 20 day out marks before the fight. If fight fans don’t get that clue then it proves why many don’t understand when deals are agreed too.

Hauser would jump on any tip too, wait for the whistleblower.

Kovalev wasn't a eddie hearn fighter. He was a Kathy diva fighter who was being co-promoted by top rank on espn.
