    Supply and demand.

Do people don't understand how this works?

I could be completely wrong about this. For the record I didn't go to college so maybe someone smarter than myself can give a better take on these thoughts.

So we have a labor shortage and let's face it, this is manufactured. This is being driven by the feds so businesses will have to raise wages. I've seen a LOT of vids from younger people pretty much saying this is a strike and they're not going back until they have more vacation, better wages, work from home ect. This appears to be like a strike pushed by the Admin. ***** himself is on video saying "pay them more and they'll go back".

So I started thinking about the admin and its border issues. They're letting people into the country left and right. Now these ARE people that will work for a lower wage. When you have a big supply of labor incoming what does that do to wages? Wouldn't this drive down demand and won't wages go lower?

Then those holding out will figure this out and think I better get back to work before I can't get a job. Now they enter the workforce and add to the number of employees. This will push wages down further correct? I mean if corporations are getting applications left and right they're not going to pay a higher wage right?

So in the end people are playing themselves. What's your take?

The work from home demands will pose an additional challenge to the white collar workplace. Currently, the office vacancy rate in NYC is just over 16%, that's even worse than last year during lockdowns which were at 11%. Take into consideration they are still building new construction in NYC (office space), and it begs the question...why build more office space when you can't fill the vacant ones that are currently available? Especially if the dynamic is shifting to a telework environment. To give you a sense of scale; back in the 90's, the two World Trade Center towers were at 95% occupancy. Now, just one tower is at 88%. So the loss of one tower and still less occupancy.

I see some of the vacant offices and stores in NY are renting space to artists, because corporations were already fleeing Manhattan long before COVID. They moved to cheaper locations in Jersey, PA and upstate NY.

The left loves to push the myth that illegal immigrants are only taking the jobs that Americans don't want. This is bullshyt. They are taking jobs in construction, home improvement, truck driving, services, restaurants, etc. It's not just agriculture jobs picking lettuce or dishwashing jobs in the back of a restaurant kitchen. Some of them are pulling down decent wages that are still lower than what would be offered to citizens. But the government won't go after the people who employ them, nor will they stop them from entering the country. ***** is ringing the dinner bell and they have come running from all over the world now, not just Mexico.

Really what this will do, is accelerate the advancement of AI, robotics and just automation in general. As a general rule, people get paid what they do because of the value they produce. If people want more money than they produce, a company will just find alternative methods, that are becoming more and more viable everyday. This is what many people complain about, yet our government uses policies that just help this along, and when it happens they will say"see I told you so". Self fufilling prophecy.

Red - No. They can't get those jobs. Only American residents/citizens can get those jobs.

Those illegals will be taking the chicken farms, hotel cleaning, landscaping, construction jobs, etc.

The government will still have to look out for those people who are replaced by robots.

It's a real interesting phenomenon, actually, I one that I fully admit I ain't really got my head around... Ima have to go away and do some reading I reckon. Anyone point me in the direction of some useful materials, primarily from an economics viewpoint but political takes from left or right would be useful too?

These articles kinda gives some of the problems but not really the solutions...

So a skills gap, geographical reasons, benefits, expectations seem to be some key proposed reasons... we got the openings but they're either in the wrong places, require the wrong training or people ain't incentivised enough to take 'em seem to be the key thoughts
