Live in Northern California, so not only thinking about blackouts during this kinda crazy winter we have been hit with, but also "roaming blackouts/brownouts" during the summer.

i have been thinking about getting one.. i am looking for one in the price range of $400-600. Not something big that can power a whole house. Just enough to power a few items (important items). Also started looking into survival kits, emergency kits, etc.. i dont know why, but every now and then, i go into this zombie apocalypse mode where i start to stock up on supplies.

I make them here are there for a few different companies. It's all about the battery really.

You might laugh at this concept but it is something your government already does. If you are able to store your excess energy physically you achieve higher efficiency.

To be super simple, two vessels that store water, one higher than. Panels turn over pumps when they get enough sun, pumps pump water from low to high. Your energy is stored in the high vessel. When you need to tap your energy store you release a valve that allows water to flow from the high vessel to the low through a hydrogenator. Repeat forever.

Usually it's done massively huge with man made lakes and such nonsense but one could do a personal sized one. Especially if you have land, but all you really need is a roof.

And that's all I can tell you. I make to spec and make sure my **** is on spec but can't speak to anything beyond the construction of panels and their applications. Not experience as an owner or repairman.

There's a facility there, and we noticed that the power on the boat was intermittent, especially if we were standing still for long periods. Starting the engine is certainly an option, but we don't want to waste fuel every time just for a refrigerator or a light on board. That's when I came up with the idea of installing a small solar generator. At first, I was skeptical, but I put it in a test system with panels and a battery, and it worked perfectly. Of course, not enough for everything, but it does the basic things.
          It's a great option

Sorry you live in CA, and the dirty politicians are getting you hot!

How much roof space or land do you own? If is is enough the Solar power could make sense.
