Oh I see, it's an American company whose English branch created a promising vaccine.
As much as I am normally down for some flag waving I'm legitimately just curious.
Does that mean private funding or public health care took care of this? Bit of both?
British based labs owned by Pfizer and a German Biotech firm...
Looks like the German government gave BioNtech $445 mil (equivalent) but whilst there was no upfront funding from the US there was a commitment to buy up to $2 billion worth upon successful completion of trials.
Mmmm. Says that Pfizer also put close to $2 billion of their own into development too:
The company, which has 2,500 UK staff, has ploughed nearly $2billion into its coronavirus programme so far, an investment which may have to be written off if the vaccine proves a dud.
Looks like maybe the core tech came from BioNtech if I got it right, but Pfizer contributed their greater expertise at major trials and mass production perhaps? Falling asleep over my PC here but I'll look into it a little more in the a.m.
EDIT: A little more info about the collaboration:
Doesn't really add a huge amount about how the work was divided up but merntions some of the UK sites involved.
