Duran was 27 when he left the lightweight division. He wasn't a big welterweight by any means and looked like a midget at middleweight.

What's wrong with brawling and fighting? A lot of guys are successful with that. They aren't all that one dimensional. Especially Hamsho and Vino.

Hamsho beat Wilfred Benitez before he lost to Hagler. Vinto got a draw with Hagler before and Hagler got justification in the rematch. Hamsho also had a win over Minter.

Obell was ranked like 5 by The Ring in 1980. He was a top middleweight and composed a record of 30-0. Sibson was good.

**** all the people were good. I can do what the thread starter is doing and what I think you are doing to me, to any boxer's resume. Even Robinson.

edit: Forgot to mention Minter and Vito had very good wins. Especially minter.

my thread is for the duran nuthuggers who proclaim him the 5th or tenth best fighter to ever live. that is a myth and a fallacy. atg like floyd get ****ted on but fighters who accomplished less in their careers like duran somehow gets a free pas, that is complete bull****.

all day long the same duran marks who say floyd needs to clean out his 4th weight class don't hold duran to the same standard.

I guess the truth came out once again.

You don't have to defend Floyd by putting down other fighters.

when you say jumped two weight classes to face leonard that is a lie duran was already at 147 for two years.you can't put him back at 135 when he has been fighting at 147 for 2 freaking years vthese are the lies that I am talking about, shane mosley jumped two weight divisions to beat oscar de la hoya because he did not have any fights at 140 or 147 before he faced oscar, that is the definition of jumping weight classes not fighting at 147 like duran for 2 years and then his revisoionists come along and say he jumped from 135 to face leonard a bunch of lies.
look. if a guy moves up in weight to beat bigger fighters, we should give him extra credit, right? I mean, thats generally what happens...
and enough with the huge font. bolding is fine, but that was just a mess.
listen marcel is a good win but that doesn't make duran a top 5 atg or even top 20 beating guys like this. that is my point if you are arguing duran is somehow better then leoanrd, hagler, and hearns who I rank all above him then you will have to display more than a man crush on duran for that to fly

I will say it again duran to me is top 30 atg based on winning titles in 4 weight classes (dominant at 135) and he beat some decent fighters and he has one atg on his record, but the no mas and medicore performances throughout his career at the higher weights don't warrant top 10 atg.
youre really not making much sense. you say 'Duran cant make a career out of that one win over Leonard' and then I gave multiple future and former champs with good credentials to show that Duran has accomplished way more than just that win over Leonard and you discount them. make up your mind.
I wouldn't hang a top 5 or top 10 atg ranking on beating guys like kobayashi who isn't even top 100 at his prime weight.
Theres no way you could name over 100 fighters that were better than Kobayashi at 130. He wasnt great, hes kind of the equivilant of Mayweather's win over Zab, because he was the former ring champ at his weight class.
I was never impressed with ken sort of like the ricky hatton of his time, but he is in the hof so it was a good victory for duran, not enough for me to place duran top 10 atg or rank him above leoanrd, herans or hagler.
do you have any idea who Carlos Ortiz and Ismael Laguna even were?
palomini did nothing after his lost to beinitez I say he was finsihed because he never won another title after his lost to benitez. palomino became a name only fighter. he defnitiely wasn't championship caliber when he fought duran.
how was he not championship calibur when his last fight only 5 months before was a close loss to an ATG? geez...

I am not bashing duran's win over moore just putting it into context beating guys like davey moore doesn't make duran a top 5 or top 10 atg since davey moore wasn't an atg fighter. good victory but duran did nothing at 147, 154, 160 or 168 and for 20 years (1980-1998) he was pretty much a punching bag for any fighter with decent skills
his single wins dont rank him so high. his collective career from 130 to 168 over almost 30 years is what makes him so great.
once again I am not bashing the castro victory, but keep it in context beating guys like castro doesn't warrant top 5 or top 10 atg. if duran had at least domianted another division like he did 135 or had been able to defeat hagler or even hearns then you can make a case for top 20 or even top 10 but no way is he top 5
Duran was 46 years old. 46. We give plenty of credit to Hopkins for fighting the way he does at his age, dont we? same thign here. and Duran was way too small for the weight class too. He was like James Toney in the Heavyweight division.

if you are saying he is the 5th best fighter to ever put on a pair of gloves then he should have been able to. if you are saying he is ranked above those guys in terms of in ring greatness he should hae been able to beat them
ok. name me another fighter at 147 and below that could have beaten prime Hearns, Hagler and Leonard. oh right. there is no one. the only one that comes close is Robinson, and I dont think he would have beaten prime Hagler. so I guess the top 5 on the list should just be vacant?

            duran is a LIGHTWEIGHT.

for 12 years duran's only loss was to esteban dejesus. (which he avenged a couple of years later)

he was also the first man to ever beat sugar ray leonard. a prime sugar ray leonard.

            threadstarter is a moron.

            spot on

duran is one of the best ever

I've brought this up before. Duran is considered top ten by a lot and like the OP I agree that he is not. Duran is ranked so high because of his lightweight reign but once he stepped outside of that shell he did not live up to the hype. Also during the reign he did often taken on much smaller men. Honestly his run kind of reminds me of what Paul Williams is doing. Duran is a top 30 fighter but I have always said he is not a top 10 atg. Some websites have put him in the top 5!

everytime you, haterfree, flawless, horus make ANY threads about other fighters other than Williams or Floyd, its normally to discredit their achievements just because "floyd gets hated on".

are you really that much of a ****en *****? EVERYTHING you guys post on here ultimately leads back to Floyd. Its like you guys dont enjoy anything about boxing if it isn't related to Floyd. You won't watch any other fights unless its a Floyd fight or someone that might be opposition for Floyd. You my friend, are lowest of the low. Lower than the Marga******s, lower than the Calzaghe ball cuppers, lower than the ignorant Pachacks, even lower than the Klitchko groupies.

Now explain to us again how Puerto Rico is below sea level again?

duran outgrew lightweight at the age of 25 he was a pretty big welterweight and a godd sized middle weight what is your excuse, if he had won those fights you wouldn't be amking any excuses

he had a short prime that warranted a top 5 or top 10 atg ranking I don't think so. to get up there your career has to outshine every other fighter before you and his did not.

being the best at 135 for a few years doean't warrant top 10 atg status, he needed to prove he could dominate more than one wight class and he didn't
                  thats why you are ******ed

duran was an average sized LW a reasonably small welter and a tiny middleweight

the guy was 5''7 you ****wit and he left lightweight at 27 not 25
