That's why they've passed. They aren't going to invest in Stevenson if Adonis isn't willing to agree to their marquee match up against Kovalev.

    Now, why didn't Stevenson agree?
This is what went down as I understand it. The Fonfara fight by itself is of little interest to either broadcaster except as a build up to a subsequent unification fight - neither broadcaster would have been willing to pay big $s for Stevenson - Fonfara without the follow on, but with Stevenson now working with Haymon the Hopkins fight was always gonna look more likely.

As to whether Stevenson does, in the end, earn more from fighting Hopkins than he would from Kovalev remains to be seen, but for a guy who was expecting well in excess of a $mil for fighting Kovalev (which is way more than either Dawson or Cloud got for BHop) I think he might not be rewarded quite as well as he seems to expect. Simple fact is Haymon can't make millions for every fighter in every fight - the revenues from the sport just won't support it.

Much as I'm disappointed that the Kovalev - Stevenson fight looks to be slipping away (and for me personally Bhop vs Stevenson is not of huge interest outside of the BHop legacy issue) there is the reasonable argument to be made that BHop probably has only a couple more fights left in him, and if Stevenson wants to fight him, it'd have to be soon. Kovalev ought, at least, to be around for a number more years, though whether the intense interest in the fight will remain is another matter.

Straight up sucks from my point of view - Kovalev vs Stevenson was the fight I wanted to see more than any other in 2014, but I predicted this scenario unfolding as long ago as Shumenov signing with Haymon / GBP.

Sucks for Kovalev too I expect, being left with no meaningful fights (outside of possibly Pascal, 'less he defects with his fellow GYM rat) and the self perpetuating excuse that 'he ain't fought nobody' to let guys avoid him.

But, yeah Adonis is disgrace. I'd laugh my ass off if Fonfara knocked him out, he would come back to HBO begging on his knees for Kovalev fight.
Clearly not by you though, you weird ****.

KKK got a multi fight deal from HBO. He's gonna be fine.

Except none of them will be for the 175 championship of the world. Why exactly are people more concerned about bank accounts than fights being made?

Yes this is how the situation went down... Stevenson obviously didn't want the fight.

No, thats not what Dunn or his ilk want to see. They prefer 'scientific' boxing and 'smart binnis moves'.

Because they rate fighters solely upon how much money they talk about getting. Its all about stakkin dat paper doe!

Bro it's not even the worst of it. Nowadays on Showtime especially, the B-side needs a knock out to win. Fights are being fixed in some way every time.

The first thing Kathy duva said in the interview posted in another thread was "KKK got a multi fight deal with HBO, which in my opinion is more important than the world title." Maybe you should direct your anger there.

HBO had right of first refusal. They chose not to match the offer Stevenson got from Showtime. They are just as much at fault.

We all want the best fights. The question is what is the real reason we are not getting them? If you want to see these fights tell Herschman to work with fighters managed by all Haymon.

I dont know, ask Adonis why he chose Fonfara over Kovalev. He's all about the "lucrative" aspect of boxing, so why turn down a better opponent, who would bring in a bigger pay check? Does he hate money, i dont understand.
